That's because Kobo has nothing to do with the hardware, that part is done by ODM/OEM Netronix. It is their hardware reference design and which is offered to ereader hardware vendors around the world.
Kobo probably did design the case/shell and made some some small changes to the original reference design by using different components.
I.e. replaced the (internal) flash memory chips for a micro-SD card.

Regarding device software, I love it. I think there are a lot of us that do. It is the main reason why I prefer the Kobo to my other devices.

Ditto, though my only complaint with Kobo is the search function on the website and the bookstore on the Kobo, my bookstore never updates, it seems.

Me too. I love the Home screen and the customisation options available.

Nobody is saying Kobo is perfect and their faults shouldn't be pointed out; please do and maybe things will get fixed eventually. But at least point out a legitimate complaint rather than just continually making snide remarks.

I doubt it. Best Buy didn't sell any previous model Kobo, I don't see why they'd sell Kobo now. It's the Indie bookstores that sold Kobo.

That's not correct, at least for Best Buy online. They currently have the Aura and the Glo for sale.

Best Buy Canada's online website seems to have a range of Kobo devices, including a pre-order for the H2O, not sure about in store though.

They did have Kobo - I bought my Arc from Best Buy a few months back. Having said that, they disappeared from their site shortly thereafter, and any of the demo Kobo products they had in-store didn't even seem to have a power supply to the display... :P

<second best innocent look>Odd. The local to me Best Buy has Touch, Glo, Aura and Aura HD in stock and the H2O available for pre-order.</second best innocent look>

BTW, they also have a couple of Sony ereaders still which may say something about how fast they turn over their stock.

David

I think this is a Canada vs U.S. thing. Canada Best Buy has always carried, U.S. did for a little bit at the beginning of Kobo entering the market, then stopped carrying them in store for the most part IIRC.

Pretty much what I've seen as well. But, hey, when someone says Best Buy doesn't sell Kobo ereaders, they should be more specific. You know, the Best Buy in Nowheres, South Dakota, USA doesn't carry them.

Suggested change...

Well, it's definitely not 2014-Sep-01 anymore so perhaps we should have the title of this thread changed? Perhaps "Does anyone really know what date it is?" might work.

David
