Still shiny and fingerprint-prone, though easily remedied with a $7 matte screen protector if it bothers you.

Brings the 8.4" to about $300. I saw the Pro 10.1" today in a store and it is an excellent screen.

Thank you everyone for the assistance and suggestions!
I've just bought the pro 10.1 and it does have a stunning display. You really can't go wrong with the 8.4. I do have a Samsung galaxy S5 and have used various other samsung phones in the past and so have an appreciation for amoled displays. However I just felt that the tab pro 10.1 was better value for money considering that it already has an excellent display.

Well, am finally back from my travels. Absolutely love the Tab S 10.5". I only carry it around now on weekend car trips to the country, so the size is just a positive. It turned out to be a longer trip to the USA than anticipated and the large screen size made for very comfortable web browsing. So glad I sprang for the larger size! I still have many things to figure out and try out, but it will be a fun process.

I purchased a Moto G (global, unlocked) 4.5" smartphone as well, this is great for portability and although not dual SIM, which would have been convenient, I can get SIM cards for both Europe and the US to make phone calls and Internet access. I've been using it just with WiFi for now and even that has been great, as I use Skype to keep in touch overseas. It is a good screen and quite fast, especially considering the reasonable price tag. It is also android KitKat (16GB) so that is convenient for me! I am also pleased with this purchase so far.

I will have to see if the Moto G can "SideSync" with the Tab S. I read that any KitKat device can sync, not just the Samsung Galaxys. Not at all a big deal, but will be fun to try.

I've even been reading a book on the small Moto G using Moon+ without any difficulty (in the dark with ScreenDim on). It was an unusual trip with many days spent in hospitals, trains, doctor offices and just waiting around - so having good mobile devices was indispensable. (Side note to the curious: Everyone is fine and healthy now, including my new twin nieces!)

Again, thank you all for the suggestions and advice, it helped a great deal!

Can the S be used without a case or is it easy to scratch? Is it comfortable to grip or slippery? It's kind of a bummer to pay for light and thin only to have to have to slap on a thick and heavy case or shell.

I keep my S8.4 in a sleeve but use it as is. I've had no problems other than fingerprints. Still can't seem to keep my fingers away ftom the back button.

I bought a MoKo slim case with auto-wake for under 8usd. It is not heavy and I like the auto-wake feature. I want some screen protection that wouldn't affect the quality, so not a plastic screen protector. But I always get cases and covers for devices, instead of accident insurance!

It is still light compared to other tablets I have used.

I also bought a sleeve and may try using that also at some point, to compare.
