But I forgot... You are the expert. Mia culpa ** EDIT ** Maybe a more eloquent way of putting it is that there is a LARGE, LARGE difference between fixing a bug, and partially masking a bug. Last edited by PeterT; 09-10-2013 at 04:26 PM. |

Ignorance sure is bliss alright. I push the button to turn on the reader and it turns on. I touch a book cover and it opens the book. I swipe the screen and the page turns. I do this multiple times and then the book is finished and then I start the process all over again. The whole process works brilliantly!

Honestly, I don't know of *ANY* ereader that is 100% perfect, just read reviews and that's evident. However, no other ereader device - and please correct me if I'm wrong - has as many firmware updates as the Kobo does. I have no issue with bug fix updates (if they fix the bugs), but updates purely to change the UI or push the store onto us is annoying. And those of us with older machines may be having problems due to the newer firmware being made for readers with different capabilities.
I'm not a programmer, but I am married to a pretty good one. I know that you cannot write software that is bug free, you can't possibly account for every scenario that will happen. HOWEVER, software can be written that is more stable than the stuff that Kobo pushes out every 6 months, taking into account known parameters such as sideloaded books and SD cards. I'm not expecting "bug free" software, but I DO expect software that allows you to actually USE the device they way it was designed. If it takes me 1 hour, or even 10 minutes, to boot up my device with an SD card, then the Kobo is NOT working the way it was designed to work. If Kobo declines to fix this, but adds a new way to shop at their store, then yep, I'm going to be fed up and frustrated with my reader. |

It's stuff like this that feeds the thought that things seem a bit rushed at Kobo.
http://www.kobo.com/indie Click on the learn more button under Aura HD and it takes you to the Kobo Arc page. Not a big deal, but something that lends itself to a second class experience. I've owned two Kobo's and liked the hardware, but the software and the customer service ("we will elevate this to a level 2 specialist and will get back to you within 24 to 48 hours") makes the overall experience subpar. Like it or not, they're not a small Canadian company any longer. Sorry for the rant, but I would really like to see these guys up their game and become more formidable competitors.
