I still have a K2 which I use around the house, and a K3 which lives in my bag. Also have a Xoom which I sometimes use for late night reading when I don't want to disturb Mrs Weird, but e-ink is massively better in all other situations.
I actually prefer the bigger page buttons on the K2, but the K3 screen is much better and the weight is just right. I also like how the K3 just feels solid, but not precious, no shiny plastic or chomed effect to scratch or show finger prints, just a simple reading workhorse. I think they really hit the sweet-spot with the K3 - it just works. My only dislikes about the K3 are the standard fonts, but easily fixed with the font hack, and Amazon's DRM, also easily side-stepped. I can't see any advantage to touch screen on an e-reader - I don't want to keep moving my thumb over the area I'm reading, or leave big sticky finger prints on it when I read while eating my lunch. Therefore no upgrade for me - a major improvement such as a flexible display or full colour might shift me, but the price would have to be in the same range as the current models. Better display resolution and a truely white background would be nice, but still not enough to pay for. For now I'd rather spend my money on books to read. |

The K4 NT is a downgrade bc it has no audio. The touch is a downgrade bc it's really hard for me to use. And I think the screen is worse (grayer background).
I'll upgrade if they improve the screen. Lighted screen is not an improvement. Add "for me" to everything above. Last edited by Barty; 04-15-2012 at 03:33 PM. |

But we shall see. That is how tech is. Suddenly you absolutely need it when you were perfectly happy the day before with the horse and buggy. |

You will not see the light source. It shines toward the screen and the only light reaching your eyes should be that which is reflected off the surface. If anyone makes a lit eink display where the light source shines in your eyes...um...don't buy it.

If my K3 (WiFi) does not break, I'm not sure when I'll replace it. It works great, still holds a monster charge, and gets out of the way while I read books. A little too well given some of the late nights when I get stuck into something I enjoy.
I like the look of X-Ray as presented for the KT as it seems to provide what I typically end up doing with some wikipedia-ing while reading now days, however I really like physical page turning buttons. I could probably see myself wanting to upgrade if a dramatically faster tech for page turning comes out, along with physical buttons and some kind of inbuilt lighting like the new B&N device. |

I like my K3 a heck of a lot more than my Kobo but I use my iPad the most. I use my Fire if I want to carry something smaller than the iPad and my K3 stays at my bedside. I don't need any upgrade of e-ink devices but as they get cheaper I'm always tempted to get more.

Just read through this thread again and realised that my K3 is the poochie's plums and Although I was tempted by the Fire, the thing I always check for in my bag for travelling, aside from my passport, is my Kindle.

Maybe I'll upgrade to the kindle "5" if ever available but for now I'm happy with my K3.

Personally I don't see anything compelling in the current models. I don't think that the lastest generation is worth the $80 perhaps $20 but not what they are asking for it. I know that if I am patient somewhere someone will get me that product for the price that I am willing to pay for it, I just need to be patient and wait.

I'm craving color (Fire), but am currently very comfortable with my K3. I'll be watching with great interest as the next round of products are released.
