You're right of course, but with respect to the final battle, it wasn't even an issue of time. They totally changed the story from everyone at Hogwarts watching Harry strike fear into Voldemart to a scene where they were fighting a solitary battle of raging equals, which they most definitely were not at that point. I don't know why the filmmakers chose to do that, but they ruined it.

The final battle was awful. They over dramatized it, took it totaly out of context, and managed to completly remove the whole discussion of Voldemort's lost souls and redemption with how they handeled it. It was awful.

I started reading the series in 1999 and never read them more than once although I've seen the movies many times. It is fun to go back and re-read the books again and realize all the clues for things to come and remember the things that I forgot because they were removed from the movie plots. The only thing I regret is that now when I read the books I have the movie characters envisioned in my head. Too bad you can't recapture your imagination of the characters from the very first reading.

Wonder if most book readers prefer to read book first then film or vice-versa. | |

I've already read them but I want a legal copy for my kindle. I'll probably buy them one at a time.

I got the first one, and I'm happy with it, including the price. It's cool that I can legally put it on my boys' Kindles, too, even though they are on a different Amazon account (one without credit cards on the account!). I think they did well with it, so I'll probably slowly get the whole set.

No, downloading pirated books is not a "smart move"; it's dishonest.

I don't plan on ever buying them in ebook format. Reading them once was enough for me!

Voted "Don't plan on buying them". I downloaded the last 4 from my library soon after they became available. I read them, enjoyed them more than I expected and returned them prior to them expiring. |

Already have them and don't plan on reading them again (maybe Azkaban though) very soon.

I don't find the film of anything really spoils the book, but I like to read the book first, but if it's on locally I'll see it. Most of the time I find the two are so different, the book is always more character-driven, leisurely, and intricate, so I don't have any big problem confusing my mind's eye image. |
