True, but a customized ("locked down") android device is not a generic android device.

BTW I'm fulling expecting the Fire to be rooted as soon (or before) it's released which will open it to apps other then the Amazon App Store, but it will still have restricted hardward so many apps simply will not work or will be useless.

Kennyc is right some of the apps will not work right. This has been the case with the Nook Color. Kindle Fire for me is only missing the AVI support. The price for the Apps is good.

So how does everyone compare the Lenovo Ideapad with the Fire? The specs are very similar and the price is comparable. Any thoughts on one vs the other?

non-IPS screen vs IPS screen (fire)
gps, cam, sd slot (ideapad) vs none of those
229 vs 199 (admittedly close, 'comparable' seems subjective) however, Lenovo has pulled them from their site, so who knows what's going on.

Given all that...I don't see how they're comparable at all.

Note that one of those requirements is licensing $$. The Android OS is free. Google Market and other key apps are not.
