The Amazon Kindle lineup for 2011 was announced and most likely the Nook people decided to go back to the drawing board since they now could see their competition clearly, and make no mistake about it, the competition is formidable, but even so certain little chinks in the Amazon armor showed up rather quickly.

The cries of anguish about the Kindle Fire, about the page turn buttons, about on board storage, about memory card storage have been heard now over and over again, loud and clearly..

So what is the latest on the Nook?

Is there a new date for the new Nook?
Will it take care to avoid all the complaints that the Kindle Fire has brought about.
Will it have page buttons without going to the screen.
The Nook people have a chance to "one up" on Amazon.
They need to take it.

I have abandoned thoughts about getting a new Kindle Fire, and have set my sights on either a Lenovo A1, or a Galaxy wifi 5.0 player which is now on Amazon. I got a notice in the mail this morning from my friend Amazon that the Galaxy's price had dropped about $4. Still neither of those items are shipping yet, and I would like to see how the Nook stacks up as a tablet.
My question is what are they doing for audio and video content? People are buying the Fire with no intent of rooting simply because of the Amazon ecosystem and available cloud storage. So, what will the NOOKcolor 2 offer to those who don't want to root?

Two more reasons why I'm not interested in the Fire - music and video. I don't buy songs and I don't buy/rent videos. Pretty much kills both of Amazon's services. If B&N ever provided such services, I'd pass on them also.

Music on my MP3 player is provided by my CD collection and FM radio. Music on my internet devices is streamed over the net. With that much free content (I already own the CDs), there's really no reason for me to buy music again.

As to videos, I no longer buy them nor do I rent them on a per title basis. That said, I would be open to a paid Netflix-type streaming service; provided the content was large enough.

well, you can upload your music to the Amazon cloud.

By the way does Nook have the equivalent of this Amazon cloud?

Not really. You can only redownload books you've bought from them, you can't upload anything for storage.

Well, here is some exciting news. Certainly for the B&N/Nook crowd, and hopefully for the rest of us since the Kindle Fire has disappointed in many ways.

Maybe the Nook will make it up.

From Liliputing, one of my favorite places.

Rumor: New Nook Color Announcement coming Nov 7, 2011.

Only WiFi. No limited free 3G.
Only 6GB out of 8GB internal memory available for consumer
No SD card port to provide additional memory
No real USB2 port useful for 3G dongle, adding storage drives, keyboard, etc.
No full android market without modifying

Bezos has a simple elegant idea to tie down the Fire to the Amazon cloud which works well for Amazon but since the Fire is only WiFi, you can't get to the cloud if you are away from WiFi. On that point, even Amazon is coming up short.

Which does not support your contention that it is "disappointing" at all. You clearly are wanting the Fire to be something it is not. The specs, functionality and price are perfect for what it is intended for. The Fire is already on target to be the best selling Kindle ever, I wouldn't call that "disappointing" at all.

An earlier statement-
"the Kindle Fire has disappointed in many ways."

It has disappointed me, and others. Will a lot of people buy it? Sure. The problem for Amazon will be if Nook provides some of those missing elements. That is why they were successful before against the Kindle. They had a SD card slot, and other things.

If Nook comes along and has in its took-kit those items, then that will allow Nook to encroach into the Kindle sales, which so far, if I might remind you, for the Fire, are "pre" sales.
I can see a lot of cancellations or returns occurring.

Have you preordered your Fire?

Oh, by the way, I returned that faulty compass and got one without the bubbles. My friend Amazon always comes through.

I still keep asking the same question. What audio and video content is Barnes and Noble going to offer. That's what it comes down to for folks who are buying the Kindle Fire. They're attracted to Amazon's ecosystem. They're not going to give that up and flock to Barnes and Noble all of a sudden simply for an SD card slot. If that's the case they would've bought a NOOKcolor. People are buying the Kindle Fire for themselves, their kids, grandkids, parents, etc. Many have no intention of rooting it. Those who are moaning and groaning about lack of SD card slot aren't the target audience.
