Ah yes, but then they may have been too scared to operate on me. Or may have done more than I needed...

Cell phones are not allowed at amny time due to FCC (NOT FAA) rules. Cell service is only licensed as a terrestrial (surface) service. Not airborne. And many airlines specifically state to turn of "Kindles (sic)." So using your ebook could get you a Federal offense for failure to complay with flight crew instructions. |

I had a pal with an original Kobo on an airplane who was told to turn off all wireless devices and he angrily retorted "this thing has no wireless capabilities" and went back to the book.
I am thinking of buying a Kobo for my vacation to south america. I simply do not want to pay the price tag on the Kindle or the Nooks and the Libra Pro is not a quality device, I had two of them. Kobo strikes me a well made basic device. |

![]() Then, too, there is always the concern that people will be issued "flight readiness" orders (i.e., turn everything off and leave it off until we're in the air) and then 15 minutes becomes 2 hours becomes 8 hours, etc. And, also, if you're Chaotic aligned, you tend to just be annoyed at rules that may not actually have any valid purpose. ![]() |

On recent flights on both Continental and US Airways, flight attendants specifically mentioned that "ebooks" were considered electronics and needed to be turned off. I usually take a magazine or newspaper for takeoff/landings.
I use the Trendy Digital waterproof bag with my K3 around and also in the pool. This product is great. I purchased it on Amazon for $20, and it looks very much like the marine dry bags posted earlier. They come in various sizes and colors for different ereader models. I definitely read outside in temperatures that are above the recommended operating maximum of my K3 and have never had any issues. There is a slight glare from the bag plastic but that doesn't make it difficult to read. The water droplets that dry on the bag are more annoying. |

I bring along a take-off and landing book, that also serves for breakfast buffets and such, where I refuse to leave an e-reader on the table, even for a moment (theoretically in sight). If I bring it to a meal, and must excuse myself for ... personal business, the device comes along. |
