All caps makes text harder to read. Not breaking your posts into paragraphs make them harder to read. As a result, may people won't bother reading them.

Not wanting to cause offense, simply stating the facts.

hmmm You have a point, but some people find it easier to read caps. Bottom line it boils down to personal preference. Some like caps some dont, and some dont care one way or the other... but we all have our own way seeing things

And no offense taken as your allowed to state the the facts as you see them.

not sure if it's been mentioned before. I'd like to try the Kobo Desktop software before getting the reader. But it seems the Desktop needs a reader to be used at all.

No i dont think you need a reader to use the desktop software. IT allows you to read the Books from the kobo store. So I am 100% certain you can use it stand alone.

Not really. It can be used to read all Kobo books right on your computer, and I use it with my Sony reader.
