Do the lip test. Aluminium is cold to the upper lip. Nice trick shared with us by ardeegee

The front is aluminium, the back is plastic with some (aluminium?) coating. The last full aluminium model AFAIK was the 505 aka battle tank.

Isn't that the truth? I actually weighed the 2 of them since the difference seemed so extreme. It really is only 1/2 oz different, but the weight balance on the Touch is really nice. The Wifi seems top heavy or something in comparison.

Kobo is taking care of it. Yay for great customer support.

Wow - that's a great use of having employees on social media - the problem device can get back directly to the developers. I imagine in a lot of places, devices would just go to a unit to be refurbed. Yeah for Sameer!

Yes, though Kobo staff don't always read everything here as it is not part of their formal help/support. The actual Kobo support folks ( http://getsatisfaction.com/kobo and the phone support, etc) just keep on getting better at what they do.

Returning the device and getting a new one in the usual way would have worked out just fine for me. That's probably the way to go when folks have problems.

I don't have my Touch yet; waiting for it to come in to Borders in July.

What is this ghosting of which several of you speak? Is it during page turns, or after - or is it during other, unrelated functions?

Thanks.

ETA: Impatient me; I didn't read the entire thread before posting. Now I'm finding out that the ghosting isn't necessarily always associated with page turns.

We have two Borders stores left here and one is being used to test the sale of the Kobo Touch. They initially had 8 KTs in their first shipment so I missed out. I got an email from them today saying their truck came in and they had a black one waiting for me up front. The salesman I know there said they never expected them to go so fast. So I guess that is a good sign.

But onto my brief impression. This thing rocks. Compared to the firmware that was on the display one in the store the new firmware makes this baby shine. It gives me the control I want over my reading experience in a way my other readers do not. This is now my go to reader. I just wish they had an official cover for it, something along the lines of what B&N has for the nook.

But just wanted to say that I am glad to join the Kobo family and am impressed by the rate of firmware updates that they keep rolling out, with things that users of this forum seem to ask for. Gotta love that in a company.
