Yes, the 350, 650, and 950 cases will use pins. I was able to make some device models over the weekend, so should have designs worked out soon.
Will also use either a vertical elastic strap, or an elastic band and button like my other cases to hold the cover shut. |

Well, I am still super keen.
My temporary case arrives shortly, so at least I can take my 650 out of the house if I like, whilst I wait for your case to go into production ![]() |

Anyone here know how the official sony cover attaches to the readers back?
Is there metal in it too? Or is it being held by the pins? |

The flap has a strip of metal in it to pull it to the reader. The pins are still there but it doesn't hold the back flap onto the reader, you can hold just the reader and both front and back flaps will pull away from the reader.

If you can make the pins metal, that will be even better. And since the x50 has magnetss on the reader put metal in the corners of the case that the magnets will help keep closed

I prefer pins to straps, but it's not a deal breaker for me. I like the large elastic strap to close the cover as well.
Let us know when they're ready, I'm ready to order one now. I hate having my reader naked and just broke the screen on my Astek, which is why I just bought a Sony 350, which I like better anyway ![]() Last edited by animedude01; 05-10-2011 at 02:22 PM. Reason: formating |

They use their clip system for all kinds of readers, which is awesome, I think. And the clips are leather covered so one can have a platinum cover for example and to go with the silver reader and it will be a smooth travel for ones eyes.

I owned a Noreve for my Cybook.
The clip was plastic. It was a good cover, but it got really worn very fast. The black leather didn't age graciously in a 1 year period. |

The plastic clip is one aspect of the Noreve. Please address the longevity of that.
Noreve's leather is another matter, as they've introduced new textures and tratments which I'd expect would age more gracefully than your cover's. Like you, I'm not a fan of smooth soft leather for constant use. All leather gets nicked, so the kinds we use for covers should be able to acquire personality over time. |

The plastic was actually really solid.
While I originally thought that it wasn't the best way of securing the reader, and it'd ultimately get soft from stress, it worked well for a total period of 2 years. I completely agree with you about the leather, which is why I was so disappointed with how my Noreve became so scruffy looking. Thats one of the reason I've ordered a cover here, I hope it'll age well as I expect to keep my ebook reader for quite some years. |

When discussing longevity of the plastic clip do you describe a static usage or frequent removing&replacing the reader?

I'd say frequent use, but it all depends on how you define it.
It was used for my Cybook which frequently froze and I'd have to take it out to reset it, I'd take it out for recharges, and I used to store my buspass behind the reader, it'd fall down often and I'd have to take it out aswell. Think on average it was removed once every two weeks. I think the plastic frame worked very well, the biggest negatives were really that with scuffs, the leather cover looked really scruffy after a few months. Also the pockets for SD card etc. were completely useless. If I'd put an actual SD card in it, it'd have risked scratching the screen. |
