Actually, more noticeable I think.

The changes from small smartphone screen to 7" is not so big than from small smartphone to 10"! You can even find some free Android apps that help running those app on the Galaxy Tab, kind of a backward compatibility mode (I have it on mine) but Honeycomb is a new and revamp Android Os. It has several changes and the screen is one of those.

I'm assuming that will be a matter of couple of months, while developers create new apps and designs for Honeycomb exclusively.

I think it depends on who you ask, someone with an iPad or someone with a Xoom.

Ah, I see. I've loving the pdf display on the xoom. It works for me and I wouldn't want to carry around a bigger device.

kennyc, I'm wondering if those extra pixels and 0.4 inches on the Xoom screen make it a better PDF reader than the iPad-I have to say that for me, at least, a lot of full page PDFs are just a bit too small for my eyes on the iPad screen. I always feel like I need to zoom in just a hair to get the text more easily readable in a lot of cases.

Possibly, not sure as I've not seen an iPad2 for comparison. Most all I've tried though on the Xoom seem fine.

Have you tried the GoodReader App? The cropping feature works great to make PDF's more readable.

Can you crop out the margin on an entire book?

Yes, from the manual:

Quote:
Crop Margins

If your file has large unnecessary page margins, you can get rid of them by cropping them out with this button. Set crop margins any way you like them. You can even define different crops for odd and even pages. Crop settings are memorized on per file basis.

While adjusting crop margins, use the "To cur.view" button (short for "Crop to current view") to crop with respect to a screen's aspect ratio. Zoom in and pan with two fingers to whatever you'd like to see on the screen after the cropping, and this button will crop out the rest, making the cropped page's aspect ratio match the screen's one.
You can read the whole manual here:

Hoyt, I bought Goodreader when the iPad version first came out, and while I love how versatile it is (esp. in terms of being one of the first apps to work well with Dropbox) I just never warmed to their interface. It just never feels "right" to me when I use it..just not iOS-like enough, I guess for me

Thanks for all the great info. I just bought it and have already trimmed the margin on an entire book! Pretty cool!

SolRaven, I use iBooks to read PDFs. But PDF was never a favorite format of mine; I prefer ePub, if only because it is so tweakable

That's what I was using but I need it for PDF biology books. You know, diagrams and columns

Has anyone tried Readdle?

I went over to the Michigan Avenue store in Chicago this afternoon. The guy I talked to said that they got new shipments each day, and anticipated that this would continue.

I must say I liked the new white iPad. I don't plan to put my Original iPad on the market, but if someone I knew offered me a decent price for it, I'd probably take it, and leverage myself into the new one.

I plan to sit on the fence until RIM comes out with their PlayBook and see what they offer in terms of features vs. price...
Eye strain is not an issue - just adjust the brightness.

Flash will become less & less important. Some big web site announced today that they were getting rid of their old flash content & moving to html5. The more ipads there are, the more irrelevant flash will become. Remember floppy drives?

Can't speak to the videoconferencing but the video quality I saw this afternoon when I went over to check the iPad 2 out at the Apple store seems fine to me.

Waiting to compare to the Playbook made sense to me before I saw the iPad 2. I was interested in the Playbook because I want a smaller tablet, but this new iPad seems oddly smaller despite being about the same size as the original. Still, you should probably wait & compare.

Finally got notice today that my Apple.com ordered iPad is on it's way. Wondering how much the Japanese disaster will affect productions in a few weeks as supplies already stored will start depleting. Quite a few parts come from Japan including the glass front. This may really hinder the international release next week as they can't even keep up with ipad sales here in the states. Lots of P O'd folks complaining on the Apple Support Community thread. Last time I looked this morning, they were up to 35 pages of whining.
Amazing how shallow people can be over an electronic device when thousands of people in Japan have lost their lives, homes, livlihoods, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled my ipad will be here next week, but it certainly takes a back seat to the Japanese peoples problems.
