Imagine if one night they were inundated with a bar-full readers of the series, all demanding to know where Granuaile is - lol.

Those who liked the Iron Druid might enjoy the Webmage series by Kelly McCullough-- Greek and Nordic mythology. Also Carrie Vaughn has a new mythology series that begins with Discord's Apple.

I just finished reading the second book, and look forward to getting the third.
The books so far have been fun. To me they are a bit like a western done in the urban-fantasy style. But I must admit to a few little bug bears: There is not much depth-to or sympathy-with the characters, Oberon is about the only one I gain any attachment too (and his personality is too cutesy to be very Wolfhound like, at least compared to the ones I've known). It is funny, or at least amusing, but I've not found too many laugh-out-loud moments - although I love the dedication to the first book. All-up: Good fun, certainly worth buying and reading ... just not quite as "great" as I was hoping for after reading about the books and all the reviews here. |

Having just finished the first book, I'd agree with gmw. Found it enjoyable and will definitely be reading the next couple soon. However I found the characters to be a little shallow and I wasn't really drawn to any of them except Oberon. Maybe I was expecting more from all the great stuff said. Hopefully the characters will grow and mature over the next few books and the series will develop more.

I'm in the camp that didn't care for the book. I stopped reading it after the fight at the old lady's house because I didn't care about any of the characters and I didn't like the "morals" of the main character. Morals is in quotes because I'm not sure if that's the right word that I'm looking for, but there was just something about him I didn't like. And either there is more interaction with Oberon later on or the things other people like about him didn't connect with me, because I didn't care about him either.

I'm wondering what you mean by "morals"? Are you trying to apply Christian values to him? Because he's not a Christian, and his belief system/moral code is different, given that he pre-dates Christianity.
Sorry to hear that you weren't amused by his interactions with Oberon. Sometimes humor is like that - everyone is laughing at something and we just don't get the point of the joke. I think his relationship with Oberon is rather endearing, especially given the fact that he has to conceal what he is and is unable to stay in any one location for a lifetime's length, it's nice for him to have a "friend" who knows who and what he is, who can point out his foibles, and who has foibles of his own. I think anyone who is a pet owner has carried on one-sided conversations with their pet; it's amusing, in this book, to be able to hear what the full conversation would sound like. ![]() |

I bought the first and third from Kobo and just today - after a week - they said the second was now available. So I cheerfully clicked on their link, only to be told that 'This book is not available internationally.' WTF!
So I responded to their email with a screenshot. I hope they don't take another week to get back to me. |

I'm reading Hounded right now! In fact, we're reading it as a book of the month in m book club. I'm really enjoying it! I thought I'd have to force my way through it because my copy of Monster Hunter Alpha is here *happy dance* but I'm having a ball so far!
The only thing marring my book happiness is my danged ereader being broken. I hate reading on my phone! |
