Yes, the $20 plan is 1GB not 2GB. I didn't pay much attention as I have the $35 plan. It makes me even happier that I chose the 3 GB one.

Until now all I've been listening in the net were lots of screaming, moaning and complaining by iTards about unresponsive touchscreen, too narrow and large screen for reading (yep, contradictory), high price etc...

If I'd ever got a tablet it'd be a minimum-sized and more mobile one like Galaxy Pad 1, but even Samsung went the oversized route with 2...

While in Verizon (the cellphone store here in USA) I played with Google Books. The text was clear and crisp. No issues. But because you need to register Kindle app prior use, I was not able to test it. I'm assuming it's the same.

Do you have to have a plan to use a Xoom? Or is it only if you plan on using the 3G or 4G options?

You have to "activate" it. You can get it with just one month of service and use it as a wi-fi.

3G at the moment, but can be upgraded when it's available to 4G

The Kindle app works/looks the same as it does on my Droid X. One small difference is that the page turns have about a half-second delay--very minor. The text is crisp and books display beautifully in portrait view. Very similar to reading a HB.

A couple of additional notes:

Subscribers may upgrade to data plans greater than the $20/1GB, but it is not possible to go back to a $20 plan, as explained to me from a VZW rep.

And, of course, 4G plans will be priced differently.

Did anyone test connecting to a VPN via encrypted PPTP? That still doesn't work properly on Android 2.2 and 2.3. Couldn't find out yet if Google fixed it for 3.0.

Someone did post on XDA-Developers that they got OpenVPN running though. But PPTP would be much easier.

Yes. It was worse than waterboarding. I could only take it a week before I gave in.....even signed up for a data plan.

Here's my first impressions: The screen is incredible -- very bright and colorful -- still not great in direct sunlight but almost usable. The one thing that didn't come across to me from the demos was the significant glare from the shiny (mirror-like) screen. It definitely has to be properly positioned.

But....The Browsing experience is INCREDIBLE -- tabbed browsing and instant on!

The built in book-reader (google primarily) is very nice.

The Kindle App is just like on my droid. No real change .. it does fill the screen.

Some apps are still (text edit) for phone-sized screens and only display in "tiny" mode.

The stereo speakers are great.

The navigation is a bit different (there are no dedicated buttons -- I wish there were) Some things were a bit confusing at first.

More later, but all in all I'M LOVING IT!!

Oh. I do wish it could be charged by USB but it can't -- only by the charger/power plug which is tiny and looks like it might get broken quite easily.

Oh the other thing -- at least at Costco -- the price discount (from $799) depended on the dataplan you bought. It had to be the 5GB/month to get the $200 off. With the 3GB plan I got $150 off.

I did not test it, but menu/connectivity wise it appears the same as 2.2/2.3.

It is a known bug in Android since 2009. You can connect with encryption to a VPN via PPTP (you can find it there in the menus), but after a few seconds you cannot pass any data back and forth. You still appear to be connected, but you cannot browse, cannot get your e-mail, nothing.

For me VPN is very important, because I travel a lot to countries with severe restrictions on the internet. Besides, it is great for Hulu, etc.

Yeah for me too ... work-wise ... not so much personal-wise, but for work I'd need to use my laptop with the cisco vpn anyway.
