![]() ![]() I'm not good with advising. So far the only person I've converted is my older sister. Kindle too. The others? They just aren't interested. They would say no, I like paper books, or no, I don't read ![]() ![]() |

I got my girlfriend and Mom firmly on the eBook wagon. When I started dating Anna, she didn't like ebooks, and was one of those "feel and smell" types, but after seeing my 505 in action, she got a PRS300 and uses the snot out of it. Its been a while since she's read anything on paper.
My Mom, I got her a nook for Mother's day, and preloaded it with the Kathy Reichs books, and she's loved it. It is easy for her to use, and gives her access to so many more books than she did before. Where she lives, there are no book stores near by, and she doesn't have access to a library (city only library, and she lives just beyond the city limits, and no library is offered for her part of the county). She would get what she had at garage sales, and the like. Now, not a problem. Last edited by Hellmark; 06-21-2011 at 01:21 PM. |

I bought a Kindle wifi and then a Kindle 3G, which I much prefer. So I currently own a Kindle I don't need.
My husband wasn't at all interested in claiming the wifi model until I mentioned I was thinking of selling it to a coworker (it's still in perfect condition). Now he's very curious :-D What finally got him hooked isn't the potential to read e-books, or even free classics; it's the possibility of loading up the Kindle with saved documents of his choice. So, provided I help him load it up with favourite docs (or, better, teach him how to do it himself), looks like I've finally got a convert on the hook. |

I'm happy to report three converts: I gave my K2 to my sister (she loves it! - I'm expecting a suitable show of appreciation somewhere down the line

Last night I gave a Sony PRS-350 to a friend of mine for her birthday. I loaded it up with about 200 free books that I got from the Baen free library, or picked up from links on the Deals&Freebies forum here at MobileRead. My friend doesn't have a PC so she won't be able to load any more things without help, but she's still thrilled.

I've had people track me down at work once word got out I had an e-reader. They had all kinds of questions! I think I've got them on board and ready to take the plunge.

None whatsoever. I know two other owners of e-ink gear, but they got them without any assistance on my part. Everyone else I've tried to talk into e-reading has only replied with silly things about paper and smell and touch and all the usual drivel so dear to those for whom "book" only means "dead tree".
I remember this happening before, when photography was switching from analog to digital. Everyone was always saying the same things about the feelings they got from using rolls of film, the process to develop them, how digital photography could never truly replace analog, blah blah blah. And now, of course, it has. In a few years, I hope e-readers will be at the same stage digital cameras are now. |

Not my wife. She borrowed mine (or let's say I reluctantly handed it over), and then I listened to her complain throughout the time it took her to read Just Kids, the Patti Smith autobio/bio of Robert Mapplethorpe. My wife hated the key to advance the pages. She kept hitting it accidentally. Hasn't bothered me, but she generally has an anti-tech streak.

I got 2 people, father and girlfriend. My father inherited my PRS900 when I upgraded to the 950 and I bought an ereader for my gf as a present - a pocketbook, as she reads mostly Russian.
Both are very happy. Father is looking at upgrading to a Pearl screen, but I don't think he will stick with SONY - I think he is leaning towards a Kindle for the store. GF is looking at a PRS350 as an addition to the pocketbook. |

Four that I know of... I occasionally let people play with my reader for a few minutes, and even though I never see them again, I'm pretty sure deep down that they immediately went home and added it to their christmas/anniversary/birthday/gift to myself wish lists

I've had a small handful, maybe 3 or 4 that I can name off the top of my head.
