I'd only had my other Kindle for a few days, so those sort of possibilities hadn't occurred to me. There's a show on a PBS affiliate that discusses local authors that I'll be enjoying more now and it'll be nice to have instant samples during the author interviews on The Daily Show.

Neato!
My folks' Kindle arrived on the 11th as promised (at 6:30 PM!). They let it charge overnight, and were reading the next day, though my mom had to be walked through it over the phone - I guess they must have a decent 3G signal at home!

assuming the local author's book is out in ebook format which the Kindle can read. Just wanted to point that out so you aren't disappointed. I think it's an interesting idea. You could even extend the idea to any sort of public speaking event, radio or TV interviews...even a movie adaptation of a book. I know movies and books are rarely true to the book but it could be nice to have at least some background, enough to wet your appetite for the movie more.

I did check out the station's website after posting and surprisingly, quite a few are Kindle-ready.

I like your idea about checking out movie adaptations and interviews. Sometimes I'll see a pundit on TV that's written a book and this would be a nice way to check out what their stance on other things is.
