Actually, the credibility of the law is what is lost in this drm-format mess. The drm restrictions are turning ordinary citizens into law-breakers. These ordinary citizens are trying to PURCHASE/BUY/OWN ebooks so that they can read them at their leisure on a device that is comfortable and that they own. Some arbitrary enactment says you can own it but you cannot really own it. If your ebook reader does not support the format tough luck. Really!

In an ideal world it would be great to have either an Amazon device which works with drm epubs OR a non-Amazon device which also works with drm Kindle files.
Luckily the price of e-ink devices now means that many people can afford to purchase 2 different readers - especially when you think back to the original price of Kindles 1 & 2. It isn't a perfect solution and not particularly practical for the casual reader but it works and avoids the moral/legal issues people have with drm. |

![]() ![]() It makes me laugh and that's what we all need to do at this silliness. We were all free to make our choice of where to shop before we bought our eReaders. And with Calibre and a couple of plug ins ... |

I love my Kindle (and it hasn't even arrived yet
![]() ![]() Amazon has all of my favourite authors, (except Tom Clancy) they're are just a click away. And I love Amazon's shop, it's cosy and makes me buy a lot of books ![]() ![]() I only read fiction and aren't the least ashamed of it! My library has Epub, and I have no problems with stripping DRM and converting to MOBI. Peter ![]() Last edited by wolw; 12-16-2010 at 05:25 AM. |
