being android based, it will be interesting to see if the PDF support is as good as desktop pdf reader. Would love to be able to read comics in PDF format. Being wifi enabled, I wonder if the nook has RSS manager or something, so I can read daily comics or articles/news in color. nook color should include games like sudoku, daily crossword puzzle, etc... , maybe online chess?

I can see how some may be torn between nook color and iPad = size and weight. some hold off buying eink because of lousy PDF support, or lacking of wifi (kindle DX).

now comes nook color, IPS panel, touchscreen, books, newspaper, magazines, games, nice size and weight.

7" IPS toouchscreen for $250 is pretty darn impressive. ppl will just buy it first, rather than waiting for color-eink.

i wont be surprise ppl buying nook to primarily surf. facebook + flickr + picasa + etc...

I think I wouldn't spend $250 for an LCD e-reader. I sure as heck wouldn't buy a tablet from a company that is a bookstore.

I have a sneaking suspicion that an application would work perfectly fine for running the interactive books.

Kindle is fine with me...Don't want an LCD screen...it would be better maybe if they had used the Mirasol colored screen IMO. And if the Mirasol colored screen page turn will be faster than what is shown on the demo videos.

Since this was directed towards Kindle readers, I'll answer. It doesn't matter to me. The thing I love most about Kindle is the e-ink and the not having to charge it all the time. I like the access to English books anytime anywhere from across the Great Pond.

When it's e-ink color, call me. We'll have something to talk about then.

I won't repeat what I said in another thread. But basically the more I think about this the more I like it. This is perfect for someone like my father. I won't have to go over every weekend to provide tech support.

I think B&N knows that which is why they are pushing the NOOKApp for whatever tablet you might buy. Seems like a good strategy to me to cover both markets.

I think it is up in the air if B&N will be selling devices in 10 years or even 5, but I think it is clear they intend to be selling ebooks well into the future.

i'm sure this has been said in one of the 5 previous pages, but imho, B&N is scrambling for the slice of the market it's lost to the K3 and the Sonys.
i for one am content with the K3 but i think maybe the poll is a bit skewed since naturally people in the kindle area are more likely to stick to what they know and love

Of course it would. Now, which reasonably priced devices will support such apps?

iPad / Galaxy Tab - not reasonably priced
iPod touch - too small
netbook - no touch screen

???

I agree. Reading Zinio magazines on the iPad's 9.7" screen is not really great. Browsing the web also demands a larger screen.

Where are the 11"+ tablets?

I was used to reading on my iphone. My iPad is huge. I now read all my magazines on the Pad, comics also but that didn't stop me from getting a Kindle 3. If I want a bigger screen l use my 15" Macbook Pro and if I need a bigger screen I'll use my 24" monitor for my MacPro and if I need an even bigger screen I'll read off my iTV attached to my HDTV.

I see no reason why Kindle owners should prefer a color Nook. They are entirely different animals. Although the new Nook looks great for magazine readers.
Besides, Barnes & Noble are only provincial players in the ebook market, only available in the USA. Some Americans may be surprised to know that there are dozens of literate and semi-literate people who live outside the States.

I have an iPad and Kindle. I love both and use both for different things. Who knows what this tablet will actually be like. Who knows how responsive it will be or how well the wifi will work. Only when people start using them will we really know how good or bad it is.

For me, format is the key. I find reading text far easier and quicker on a smaller width text line (screen) than on my larger 15" laptop or 24" LCD monitor. Color makes no difference on text.

Color does make a difference for magazines, but so also does a larger screen because of the full page formatting needed to do justice to a magazine article with embedded pictures and images. Magazine formatting is entirely different and requires a different screen size (full page size) to adequately display a magazine. Color is OK if the screen size is adequate (laptop or monitor). A tiny picture on a cell phone or a miniaturized magazine page on a Nook screen is, to my eyes, inadequate.

I would buy the Nook for the no-hassle access to ePub from B&N in the event that they offered material unavailable at Amazon or elsewhere, but I wouldn't buy one to read text copy which has no color requirement. Color serves little purpose on a small screen.

I wanted to add, I'm not down on the Color Nook specifically, or slate-type computers. I'd love to have an iPad honestly. If I didn't already have a Kindle for reading, and the Color Nook was an open Android system, and assuming the specs are up to snuff, I'd consider buying one. But, as things stand now, I just don't see it.
