The only way to handle stress that works for me is to spew the venom that builds up inside me. Since no human being listens to me and therapists charge too much, I vent to the dog.

Sigh. Excellent thread topic grandma. My life is one giant ball of stress right now.

I've taken up smoking again (after quitting for six years)
I drink a beer or two when I come home from work
I put the cat on my chest and we have tummy time until he kicks me in the face.

I've also recently discovered something at my local Walmart called "Nerve Tonic," it's one of those natural remedy things. I pop one of them and relaxation hits me soon after. Mixed with chamomile tea and I'm in heaven.

I wish I could kill the stress, but it's 99.997% work induced (I have two supervisors that literally love to make my life a living hell) it makes me miserable and not want to go to work. But I need to go to work to get paid or the recession will kick my ass and I'll be living on the streets and then my poor kitties will have to go into shelter. Lately, I've started daydreaming about what I plan on doing when the recession finally goes byebye *Hint - I'm getting the hell out of dodge, screw south florida, it's brought me nothing but drama*

But, lately, i've been finding myself getting jammed up for stupid stuff and they make mountains out of molehills. If they end up putting paper in my file, it's going to give me all sorts of trouble when I try to get a new job to pay my new bills.

Urk. It's a catch22. Anyone need a new government slave?

I vent "TO" the dog, you evil woman, not "AT" him!

Pets respond to the tone of your voice, not the words.
I vent the same way most people recite the alphabet.
The fact that you would believe that I would willfully hurt my little brother shows how little you know about me and what kind of person I am.

When the stress gets too much I usually calm myself down with a soothing fantasy.

I see myself in a tall office building emptying waste baskets, vacuuming floors, and washing windows. All the idiots have left, Peaceful.

And then when all is done I modify the SOB's outlet to their computer so that only the computer will intermittently lose power.

I'm so sorry, although I know that doesn't help much.

I retired just last month, but I worked for the federal goverment for 35 years straight, so yes, I know where you're coming from. When I started in this last job I was in, I was absolutely miserable and stressed beyond belief for several months because I felt like such an outcast in there. (Long story.) It did get better, though, and once I got a new supervisor in there I actually enjoyed it most of the time. Maybe there will be some kind of personnel turnover where you are -- I hope so. Meanwhile, go pet your kitty.

Another destressor I use is to come to MR and initiate flame wars. I have several aliases which I've used to log in and start arguments about DRM, piracy, Apple, religion, politics, and even llamas. And I'm banned in 19 forums. I'm hoping to win a prize or something with 20.
