I still don't understand why none of the ebook reader OEM (including Sony) didn't implement my very simple idea of having the _current book_ cover displayed on your reader when you turn it off...
After all, with a p-book, it's what happens when you close it, isn't it ? |

dpierron: Kobo does this. And yes, I wish my Sony reader could do it. You can do it manually by extracting the cover file from the epub and dragging it into the images folder, then selecting it on the device. I think someone on here had a script that automates part of the process. Are you involved in Calibre development? I would love to see Calibre have an option to send the cover image to the images folder. Also, I recently noticed that the cover images Calibre downloaded were really tiny. I'm not sure if there is a setting for the image size I want in Calibre.

Really ? Go Kobo, then
![]() No, I'm not involved in Calibre development, and anyway I don't think Calibre can do something about this cover idea : the only software running at the moment you "close" your book, that is able to determine which book you're reading NOW is the eReader software... |

I'm just talking about getting the cover images onto the device. Calibre copies files onto the reader, so why not image files? I would take care of the rest myself. This would not be as good as how Kobo does it, but it would be handy. Maybe I'll bring it up in the Calibre forum. Also, I think the people who make PRS+, the alternative Sony Reader software, might be working on this. I'm unlikely to ever flash my reader myself, it's too scary for me.

This is my photo from Paris, if anyone would like to use it for the e-reader wallpaper, you're welcome to do so.

I wanted to have a wallpaper that would make me "want" to read a book. Not that I find myself not wanting to read on the eReader but still, a nice "cozy" wallpaper makes it more enjoyable to pick up the eReader and start reading.
Since I typically enjoy drinking coffee while reading a book, I used Google Images to look for "book coffee" or something similar and one of the pictures that came up, I threw in Pixelator to more or less frame it. It looks very nice in B/W on my PRS-650. |

Goli,
With the default ROM, no. with the latest PRS+, Yes! check out the text under "How it looks like on PRS 600" for what you'd need to do after you install PRS+. Last edited by CraftyDan; 04-12-2011 at 05:59 PM. Reason: lil' too fast on the draw |

To add a power-off wallpaper to the 600, right now only PRS+ provides it.
There a lot of steps, but none of them are hard. As for step-by-step how about this. To run through them: 1. download the PRSP_600_base_flasher_1.0_by_amutin.zip and PRSP_600_2.0.10alpha_Installer.zip from the download section. 2. unzip PRSP_600_base_flasher_1.0_by_amutin.zip and step through the "Installing base image (needed by 600)" instructions 1-6. 3. Step through the "600" instructions 2-4. PRS+ should now be installed, lets install the wallpapers: 4. create the sub-directories "/database/system/PRSPlus/wallpaper" on your reader's main drive. beware, it's case-sensitive. 5. copy your wallpaper images into that directory. That's it! turn off your reader and viola! no more blank screen. |
