So you are saying having a tablet. which is a multi media device. That having an SD card slot where you can throw in your card from your camera and upload them directly to your device, without having to go through the process of download to your computer then transferring them serves no purpose and is overated

and also to take your card from your video camera and pop it into your device and watch them instanlty and has the ability to save on your device serves no purpose and is overated

and let's say 2 years down the road you have accumulated tons of videos, pictures, apps, movies etc and space is running low, but you don't really want to start deleting, so being able to run to the store and pop in an 8G card for example serves no purpose and is overated.

Yeah spoke like a true iOS fan.
How dare you, a mere mortal user, contradict the decisions of the great Steve? If he declares that SD cards and HDMI are for techies only and regular users don't need such things then you bend over and say "can I have another one, Sir?"

Lots of mere mortal users seem to be enjoying the iPad. Not all of them are 'bending over' as you imply.

Not sure why you guys are so adamant that you are right, and Apple is wrong. Different needs for different people. It doesn't suit your needs? Totally fine.

Being relentlessly snotty towards a company, a CEO, and a product (and by extension, towards users of that product) just shows a lack of maturity, and a lack of perspective. Just a tablet, guys. Try to be a little less childish when we are trying to discuss it.

Not sure what you are mocking-you have some better idea what they should have sold? (I certainly don't...I don't even know how many they had available for sale, or what their goals were).

moments of tablet euphoria are hard to find, and that's largely because the PlayBook has hardly any apps. I'm not an app junkie. I can get by with a decent Twitter client, an e-mail app, some premium video sources and a few really good games. The PlayBook, as it stands, has none of those things, except for Tetris. And without a video chat app like Skype or Fring, you can't even take full advantage of the PlayBook's front-facing camera. The apps that are available have crashed on occasion.

Without a lot of apps, you're forced to seek refuge in the Web browser. In theory, this isn't a horrible setback because of the PlayBook's Flash support, but Flash still isn't ready for primetime on tablets, and it shows.

Enjou your ipad and other idevices. But at least Rockdaman should be honest and say "yes, not having Flash, an SD card, etc is a big disadvantage. I bought the ipad in spite of that, the other advantages outweight that". That would be a reasonable position. But don't turn an important missing function into a feature -- as apple fanboys like Rockdaman are apt to do.

There's plenty of anti-Apple bigots here too... who have been emotionally scarred by Apple and must inject their anti-Apple feelings into every thread.

This thread is about the RIM Playbook. There are some important take-aways from RIM's decision to release a half-baked Playbook at this time. What is going on in the consumer tablet market that forced RIM's hand? Why are companies who had been designing their tablet offerings for a few years prior, announced their plans in early 2010 but then ended up scrapping them in light of the iPad's debut... and still haven't produced a solid viable alternative... a year later? Why are the sample people who dismissed the iPad as nothing more than an oversized iPod now clamoring for tablets that are nothing more than oversized Android handsets?

Why were these companies caught so flat-footed?

You and everyone else who will claim that it is Apple's pixie dust sprinkled on lemming consumers can refrain from replying.

They aren't. In the Android world most were waiting on Honeycomb, though some have moved ahead anyway with pre-honeycomb os, but even it is more of an os than iOS.

We run in different circles. Amongst the developers that I associate with there is a definite inconsistency, rooted in anti-Apple emotions. I'm not fond of Apple for very tangible reasons... they charge $100 a year for developers and require that fee for anyone who wants to develop apps for their own iOS-based devices. (jailbreaking aside)

Android development is free and much more open.

That's a total non-sequitor. You want to try that in English?

It's not.

1. Mobile flash is still hit and miss on the best mobile hardware. It's just not ready for primetime. Thats why...

2. All the important sites have a iOS app (Youtube, Pandora, etc...)

3. There are alternatives to the SD card or people just don't need it. People said the same thing about the iPhone. Still no SD card, and people are still buying it in huge numbers. You overestimate its importance.

Yup:

Interestingly, among the 37.9 million consumers with access to the Apple iOS, only 4 million (10.5 percent) accessed the platform via more than one device...

...Though it’s frequently assumed that the Apple user base is composed of dedicated Apple ‘fanboys’, there’s not a tremendous amount of overlapping mobile device access among these users....

...suggests that iPad ownership extends well beyond Apple’s most fervent consumers. Although a perception may exist that iPad owners tend to be those with a very strong affinity for Apple products, an analysis of the mobile devices of iPad owners indicates that may not be the case.
