I'm reading (I've got about 100 pages left) The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Wow, great book. Heartbreaking.

Finishing up Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby. Can't believe it's taken me so long (decades!) to get to this one. It's funny and heartfelt, and the onslaught of soccer and Arsenal details works fine for this football dork, but I'm surprised it worked so well for so many mainstream readers. In any case, it's a nice break from my usual historical espionage and mystery fiction and nicely coincides with my Portland Timbers FC returning to the top flight of American soccer in MLS. This last part won't make much sense to most of you, but it means a ton to this Portlander! RCTID!

I read the sample of "The Hunger Games" since the Asimov book I ordered was a pre-order. (I guess it is back catalog that is being slow added). But, I really got hooked on Hunger Games and think I might just buy it and continue.

Thoughts?

I'm sure you'll get lots of comments, but I loved The Hunger Games. Enough that I picked up the second in the series, Catching Fire, and added to my TBR pile. I found it kind of "mature" in places for a YA novel, but a good read for even this O.F.

Anybody else reading/read Kameron Hurley's God's War?

Trying to get through it, but keep getting stopped by some pretty intense dialog in the last 1/3 of the book. I'm not a prude, but for some reason I'm having a difficult time with descriptions of Nyx's torture.

Just finished Packing for Mars a well written and fascinating book by Mary Roach about the planning and research that went into putting humans in space.

I didn't even know it was a YA novel. I just looked at the list of Kindle best sellers and it was at/near the top. The main plot doesn't seem very YA friendly. I think I'm gonna buy it and give it a shot.

You're right, one of the best books I've ever read. Fantastic. Great and heartbreaking are not mutually exclusive.
