I really loved Jacob de Zoet. If you haven't read it, you should try David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas. Very strange and very different from Jacob de Zoet, but I couldn't put it down.

It didn't disappoint. An excellent continuation of the fantasy series. And the separate plot threads weren't too many. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Now for a freebie: Knight of Ghosts and Shadows by Mercedes Lackey and Ellen Guon.

This is the first book in their (& Rosemary Edghill's) Bedlam's Bard series. The more recent book are available at webscriptions, but this one was too early, and hasn't appeared as a reissue of fill-in yet. It is, however, now available in various ebook formats for free on the "Invasion CD", the most recent of the CD compilations included with various Baen hardbacks.

I've read the others from the third in the series. After this one there's only the second one missing. Hopefully it too will eventually appear in ebook format.

Just finished "Consider Phlebas" by Ian M. Banks.

I picked up "Balshazzar's Serpent" by Jack L. Chalker as a paper back book to read while the Nook is charging or not close enough to me to grab.

Reading such a 'high' scifi book from Mr. Banks put me in the mood for something fantasy so on the recommendations from the fine folks out here I'm trying "Sweet Silver Blues" by Glen Cook.

A Discovery of Witches

Just finishing it for the third time. I re-read books often, but not usually back to back like this.

This book has become one of my all time favorites. Now I have to wait another year for the next one. .

Highly recommended!

I'm reading it right now, for the first time. I like it, but it is going slow for me because I've been very busy and haven't had much time to read lately.

Right now I'm reading J.D. Salinger: A Life. I'm about 1/4-way through. So far, highly recommended.

Interview with Vampire didn't get along with me well, so after reading half of it I stopped. Right now I'm reading James Patterson's Sundays at Tiffany's.

Got on a Kurt Vonnegut kick -- "The Sirens of Titan" and "Man Without a Country." Then switched to "River of Doubt," a biography of Theodore Roosevelt's 1914 trek down an uncharted Amazon river tributary that nearly killed him, followed by "Grace: Eventually" by Anne Lamott. Now working on "Bridge of Sighs" a novel by Richard Russo. Eclectic? Naw...

I found "Interview with a Vampire" to be a strange read. The writing style managed to suck me into the world with ease. But once I was there I didn't really like it. I did manage to finish it but didn't read any of the others.

Yeah. I probably wouldn't have read The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned if I'd read "Interview" first. Loved "Vampire Lestat" but got tired of The Vampire Chronicles after QotD.

I was entranced by Interview, but also gave up after Queen of the Damned, as I felt the story line has lost its way.
