(my two, one rescued when pregnant (she had kittens the following morning) and one being the kitten of the pregnant one, are currently sleeping on the bed. lazy bastiches. no food troubles for the moment but i'm sure they're cooking up some equally dastardly plot even as i type this... the "nap" is just a ruse.)

My late cat used to visit the neighbours' houses and eat their treats. And he'd wander into any house that had a cat flap and help himself to their kitty buffet. Perhaps your cat had just done the same, Poohbear, so had no appetite for breakfast.

My kitties are strictly indoor - no street smarts among them. So no cat flaps on the doors. But I do suspect them of ordering pizza while I'm gone and hiding the boxes under the deck.

Update - vet calls this afternoon with results of lab work - you guessed it - the cat is fine. I'm a wreck.

Like h_t's dog, Goldie had an "unadoptable" medical condition - a congenital heart defect & murmur - you'd never know from her behavior there was anything wrong with her. Once a year we take her to the university veterinary teaching hospital in Raleigh for a full cardiac workup - just like a human workup -- EKG, echo-cardiogram, X-rays, etc. Six years and going strong!

Cat flaps can be exciting. A friend told me his cat flap horror story: He has 3 cats too. He came home after dark, went in the house and found all 3 cats sitting on the couch - absolutely frozen in place with huge eyes looking up. He looked up and saw an adult raccoon clinging to the top of the doorjamb over the door leading to the kitchen. Thinking fast, he opened the kitchen door into the back yard and turned out all the lights in the house. He then sat down on the couch with the cats, opened a bottle of Irish whiskey and waited for the raccoon to exit the house. Needless to say, the flap was removed later that night. He is a really big guy - about 6' 3" and 250 pounds -- and I've never lost the mental image I had of him cowering on the couch in the dark with his kittehs swilling the whiskey.
