I think the variations are more in the camp of "let's try this." There are also seasonal considerations. Speaking from experience, running promotions in the summer is much more difficult than other times of the year because a lot of people are vacationing. There's also a different mindset in the summer and different types of books sell better in summer versus other times of the year. Many retailers (and not just in books) save the bulk of their ad ops/promo ops for October through about January because that is the heaviest buying period.

There is no way to know if sales fell in the last contest (well, they might know, but they aren't going to tell US.)

LMAO, I was just wondering about this. Not that I've won anything yet, I think I'd rather get a 75% code so I can just buy that bundle set I'm eyeing. Best code I've gotten so far is 45%. So... keeping fingers crossed!

I just joined the contest last month so I don't know how the rates compare, though this round seems to be better than the last round. I did find the overall rate for the 75% to be a tad low at 2%, like there's only 2 for every 100 coupons... but it's still higher than last month, so hopefully there will be lots of spare coupons around later in the contest for everyone!

Ironically, I buy most of my books post-Christmas (with my Christmas money) and than in June with my birthday money.

Sony used to send me coupons for my birthday, I wish Kobo would!

Yeah I wondered about that decimal point shift as well .....

Just hope they keep it the way it is

I just wanted to thank all of you who go to the trouble of getting the Kobo codes and posting them. I was able to use 3 or 4 65% codes and 2 or 3 55% codes, a while ago, that saved me quite a few dollars!

The Christmas money is why the Christmas season extends into Jan. In my experience it actually extends pretty well into Feb. Not until March/April do things start to taper. May can go either way, but by June, the summer slowdown begins. I see it with the associate referrals and blog traffic as well. One of the bloggers I used to follow took all of August off every year because by August traffic was so slow, she didn't feel like talking to empty airwaves.

I've taken out ads in various months and when it comes to bang for buck, you kind of waste some of your money most summer months (the one exception is generally a new book announcement).
