Very cute, but I'm more of a rat person (unfortunately, so are my dogs - well, except change "person" to "terrier" - which precludes that as well. I'm thinking reptiles might be interesting...).

Yup. I brought my little Rodney Cheshire home last Friday.

I can't stand reptiles. Especially the ones that eat live prey.

If it matters (and it probably doesn't

), I'd like to do this with an eye to maybe eventually helping the local wildlife rescue with their scaled saves (as I imagine they get less volunteers than for the "soft and cuddly" marsupial fosters).

He's a baby Ferret. Just three months old right now, so he's still has a lot of growing to do. (the males average 51cm from nose to tail)

I have a few more. Most of them aren't that spectacular, but it's the best I can do as he never stands still for very long.

also the one of "rodney nearly falling into the bowl" (maybe he needs a smaller dish !

)

so what kind of personality does he have ? is he playful ? cuddly ? inquisitive ? shy ? i guess i don't know anything about ferrets actually.

Does he look shy?

And naturally he doesn't want a smaller dish, he's having fun with it!

it's hard to tell from photos... my cat is not shy at all with me and i have plenty of photos of her playing or running around right out in the open, but if a stranger comes to the house they won't see her at all because she'll be hiding the whole time.

Ferrets like to play with their dishes. Pushing them around and knocking them over. That's why he's got a big one. Of course he likes to take the food out and eat it by his "bed" anyways.

He, like most Ferrets, is extremely energetic while awake. And he uses that energy to explore everything in sight! Including the innards of my speaker (I had to coax him out with some food). If you get near him he'll start to prance around, and does hit and run (or rather "pounce and run") with any nearby hands. And then when Rodney finally tires himself out he likes to roll up on my lap.

my cat knows the "pounce and run" game too... hours of entertainment (for her i mean). luckily, she does not take her food out and it by her bed, because that would be disgusting. sounds like you will be pretty busy with him !
