Another way of using the gift card and ensuring that it uses the currency of your choice may be to open an account for say India, and another account for wherever else you may want to use the gift card and gift it to those individual accounts .....

I was still in India when I checked. I spent ages staring at the dollar sign wondering which kind of dollar it was...

I haven't yet plough through the emails but it looks roughly right.

How do you organize your books since you have several accounts? Do you have different readers logged in into different accounts?

This is just a guess, but what might be happening is that the HK dollar is sometimes used as an intermediate currency when converting minor currencies like NZ/Aus dollar to other "minor" currencies like Indian rupee. In the old days this was always done using US dollars, but now the euro or HK dollar are often used.

Two exchanges are needed to convert NZ dollars to Indian rupees using an intermediate currency: NZ dollar --> HK dollar --> Indian rupee for example, but it works out cheaper than converting direct from NZ dollars to Indian rupees, because conversion fees are much lower on the HK dollar. But then charging in HK dollars would mean that only one exchange is needed, which saves even more.

This idea of an intermediate currency has never occurred to me. May be you are right and that's why they have the giftcard stored as Hong Kong dollars regardless of "where" I am.

In view of the new contests I'm visiting Australia again to put some money into my account for future spending.
