We've got Earthsea, Orsinia and most of the Hainish Cycle in ebook, with a smattering of others... I might not go for the full bundle.

No longer free, but it is now only £0.99. I heartily recommend this book. Great fun.

Well that's wrecked my stats on bought vs read!

There were 20 books in the bundle that I didn't have. At about £0.70 each I couldn't resist.

You don't get a choice which books are in the smaller bundles.

I know, which is annoying! I'd really like it if the bundle operator allowed you to select x, y, z or all titles so as not to duplicate what you already have, but I suppose that's something for the Vent & Rant thread.

There were enough to make the top tier worth it in the end.

That makes sense though. If you could pick and choose, then you may go for a smaller bundle for less £. This way, you'd most likely go for the full bundle.

I had all the Earthsea in an illustrated omnibus, and maybe a couple of others. Still worth it and 1st time HB has allowed me to purchase in Ireland. Some of these were in my Amazon wish list, and some I'd not heard of.

For others:
Likely a good idea to make a Kobo account before you purchase. Irish Account worked.
Remember to rename ACSM links when downloading from Kobo and redeem ASAP as they expire and then you need to download again from Kobo.

One needs to be awake to work the process of redemption.

The €18 is only one or two titles in the Tesco supermarket now.

I used to have the original Earthsea trilogy in really nice MMPBs. I still have Wizard and Tombs, but I lost The Farthest Shore somewhere along the way. I've actually never read the later books.

Yeah, come payday, definitely...

Catwings certainly lends itself to a color ebook reader.

Turbulence and Resistance by Samit Basu are $1 each in the US (Kobo (Resistance only, ATM), Amazon T, Amazon R)

This is a series, even though the storefronts don't list it as such.
Superheroes in India. The blurb for Turbulence:
Quote:
Aman Sen is smart, young, ambitious and going nowhere. He thinks this is because he doesn't have the right connections--but then he gets off a plane from London to Delhi and discovers that he has turned into a communications demigod. Indeed, everyone on Aman's flight now has extraordinary abilities corresponding to their innermost desires.

Vir, a pilot, can now fly.

Uzma, an aspiring Bollywood actress, now possesses infinite charisma.

And then there's Jai, an indestructible one-man army with a good old-fashioned goal -- to rule the world!

Aman wants to ensure that their new powers aren't wasted on costumed crime-fighting, celebrity endorsements, or reality television. He wants to heal the planet but with each step he takes, he finds helping some means harming others. Will it all end, as 80 years of superhero fiction suggest, in a meaningless, explosive slugfest?

Turbulence features the 21st-century Indian subcontinent in all its insane glory--F-16s, Bollywood, radical religious parties, nuclear plants, cricket, terrorists, luxury resorts, crazy TV shows -- but it is essentially about two very human questions. How would you feel if you actually got what you wanted? And what would you do if you could really change the world?

Or any of the decent true matte LCD/OLED screens, not just Nxtpaper, but I don't know how how good the others are. A color eink would be much poorer (now I've seen one in real life) and many decent OLED/LCD ·are cheaper.

I've previewed on my paper-like 4k HDR 23″ LG and it's cute. Mysteriously almost all the ebooks were left aligned.

If the words are as good as all the Ursula Le Guin I've read, the mono eink will be fine. I'd buy a 7″ to 9″ Nxtpaper if it existed (ideally not 16:9), but it doesn't so I'll probably add just the Nxtpaper 14 (and keep the 11 and 40). The 14 pro seems more for gamers.

Ten Low by Stark Holborn is $2 on Amazon.com
Was on my wishlist. Now the start of a sequence.
Quote:
Punchy, female-driven space western set on a lawless alien moon!

Ten Low is eking out a living at the universe’s edge. An ex-medic, ex-con, desperate to escape her memories of the war, she still hasn’t learnt that no good deed goes unpunished.

Attempting to atone for her sins, she pulls a teenage girl from a crashed lifecraft. But Gabriella Ortiz is no ordinary girl—she is a genetically-engineered super soldier and decorated General, part of the army that kept Ten prisoner. Worse, Ten realizes the crash was an assassination attempt, and that someone wants Ortiz dead.

To get the General off-world, they must cross the moon’s lawless wastes, face military hit squads, savage bandits, organ sharks and good old-fashioned treachery. But as they race to safety, something else waits in the darkness. Something ancient and patient. Something that knows exactly who she is, and what she is really running from.

Superheroes in India. The blurb for Turbulence:
Thanks. Those sound like a lot of fun. The list of who got what power seemed lazy and obvious. But then the last two paragraphs turned my opinion around.

BTW: Both are now a buck at Kobo as well. Resistance. Turbulence.

Cross-posted to Horror.
The Warren by Brian Evenson is $2 on Amazon.com
Novella.
Quote:
X doesn’t have a name. He thought he had one—or many—but that might be the result of the failing memories of the personalities imprinted within him. Or maybe he really is called X.

He’s also not as human as he believes himself to be.

But when he discovers the existence of another—above ground, outside the protection of the Warren—X must learn what it means to be human, or face the destruction of their two species.

Generation Ship by Michael Mammay is $2 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Quote:
The beginning of a new human colony must face tyrannical leaders, revolution, crippling instability, and an unknown alien planet that could easily destroy them all.

In 2108, Colony Ship Voyager departed Earth for the planet of Promissa with 18,000 of the world’s best and brightest on board. 250 years and 27 light years later, an arrival is imminent.

But all is not well.

The probes that they’ve sent ahead to gather the data needed to establish any kind of settlement aren’t responding, and the information they have received has presented more questions than answers. It’s a time when the entire crew should be coming together to solve the problem, but science officer Sheila Jackson can’t get people to listen.

With the finish line in sight, a group of crewmembers want an end to the draconian rules that their forebearers put in place generations before. However, security force officer Mark Rector and his department have different plans. As alliances form and fall, Governor Jared Pantel sees only one way to bring Voyager’s citizens together and secure his own power: a full-scale colonization effort. Yet, he may have underestimated the passion of those working for the other side...

Meanwhile, a harsh alien planet awaits that might have its own ideas about being colonized. A battle for control brews, and victory for one group could mean death for them all.
Till We Have Faces by C. S. Lewis is $2 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Quote:
This twist on an old story, is an exploration of love—between sisters, between friends, between teacher and pupil, between men and women. Till We Have Faces is retold through the eyes of Psyche’s oldest sister, Orual.

Orual was born ugly and even though she’s a princess, she struggles with the death of her mother and the friction between her sisters. There are two lights in Orual’s life. One is her tutor, the Fox, a Greek slave captured through war. The other is her much younger sister Istra, later nicknamed Psyche, born from Orual’s father’s second marriage. Istra is beautiful and sweet and good but far from being jealous of her, Orual loves her as a daughter. When the priest of Ungit says that Psyche’s great beauty is an insult to the goddess and she must be sacrificed, Orual fights to prevent this. When Orual expects to find her sister dead, she finds her well and thriving. But, why can’t Orual see what everyone else sees? Blinded by her jealous love, Orual castes blame on the duplicity of gods. What is the truth? What is real?

Lewis’s novel is a brilliant examination of envy, loss, betrayal, blame, grief, guilt, and conversion. Why must holy places be dark places? Lewis reminds us of our own fallibility and the role of a higher power in our lives. “Holy places are dark places. It is life and strength, not knowledge and words, that we get in them. Holy wisdom is not clear and thin like water, but thick and dark like blood.”
