Since it wasn't his normal publisher, it clearly indicates to me that they would not have published it.

The Cinder Spires one was part of the next novel but was cut, almost certainly at the publisher's direction. Rather than deleting it and it never getting published or waiting years for him to have enough of these ready to publish an anthology, he published it separately and independently.
Like John F said, would you prefer if it wasn't published at all? This isn't a new thing either. He's published Dresden stuff in other locations many times (link). Digital magazines, non-related anthologies, etc., not all of which are available at all normal distribution points. It seems like you're bent out of shape more about this one being Amazon exclusive specifically, not about exclusive to one source in general. Besides, I would be surprised if they don't show up in an anthology later on (he's done that with most of the Dresden short stories) but then you'd have to read the stories out of chronological order. Which isn't a big deal for most people since they don't push the overall story lines much. But, I appreciate that when he had a way to get them to us earlier in some form, he did it. Even though its not my normal preference. |

But when they are exclusive to Amazon, a lot of people cannot get them. That is just very much wrong. And either everyone can get these short stories or they don't get published. They could have been published on Smashwords for everyone if need be. |

There are 10 other short stories / microfiction listed that have not been anthologized yet in a JB anthology listed in the link I provided earlier. Some of the stories that are in his anthologies were never published in e-format until the anthologies came out. Backup was only at Subterranean Press per his site, so only in hardcover until the anthology. At least one of the other anthologies is also Kindle exclusive: Parallel Worlds: The Heroes Within is in KU. Many Bloody Returns doesn't look like it is available as an ebook (at Amazon at least) either. This isn't new. When he gets enough for his own, broadly published anthology, he will do so if he follows his previous examples. Until then, he publishes things in whatever format is most convenient. He's been doing this for years. Coming up on 2 decades even. Again, would you rather this not be out anywhere yet? |

Does Christmas Eve fall before Little Things or after The Law or in between?
Does Mike fall before It's My Birthday Too or after Heorot or in between? I'll have more when I have time to ask. |

I couldn't say right now. I have had it finished a while back, but cannot remember exactly if they depend on each other chronologically. Methinks that both are independent from each other, so order wouldn't matter. Usually if that's the case, I would fall back to publishing order.
