Rofl, totally forgot about that, luckily I haven't bought any books yet, still trying to trim down my shopping list!

I thought that was funny! Their customer service kind of leave much to be desired. I had a problem with one of my purchase, sent a few emails, and they couldn't be bothered to reply to any.

Yep, I can't believe this .... it's in my third account as well, but it went in on the 26th instead

I give up Kobo .... I don't want the book!!!
Found out what's happened .....

Apparently there's an AUS/NZ winter warmers promo, and this book is one of the free gifts in the promo, which should only apply under certain circumstances but ended up applying to me anyway.

At the end of June I downloaded my Kobo library accounts (separately) to my BB Playbook Kobo app and as a result this triggered the algorithm to release the bodice ripper to each of the accounts. (I've had the Playbook and the Kobo app on it since I bought it years ago)

Well glad that's sorted, eh

For info here's the blurb on the book in question - Seven Nights in a Rogues Bed by Anna Campbell (an Aus author, some of whose awards are included below)
Spoiler:

Desperate to save her sister's life, Sidonie Forsythe has agreed to submit herself to a terrible fate: Beyond the foreboding walls of Castle Craven, a notorious, hideously scarred scoundrel will take her virtue over the course of seven sinful nights. Yet instead of a monster, she encounters a man like no other. And during this week, she comes to care for Jonas Merrick in ways that defy all logic-even as a dark secret she carries threatens them both.

Seven Nights In a Rogue's Bed Awards

I think in the case of the release of this free book to whomever's accounts it went into should have come with an explanation. Especially because the title of the book could quite easily be read as being a sex rated book and therefore raise some questions of proprietary.

Had the book been something less salacious sounding of course it may have gone unnoticed and not furthered the marketing of the promo which it has now done.

Normally when Kobo does something like that here they send a special code to get the book not just put it in the library even without a email. When I think of Anna Campbell I think of Angst more than sexy. Her heroes always suffers and who doesn't love a tortured hero. It's a beauty and the beast type story. I just love this trope.

Just so you know it's not a bodice ripper, There hasn't been a bodice ripper published in years. Bodice rippers were published in the 70s-80s with a few in the early nineties but that genre birth into historical romance. The term bodice ripper came about because most of those books had force seduction in them, that is no longer allowed or accepted by readers. Even those who wrote such books as they re-release them digitally are revising to go with the modern reader who would be appalled as such acts.

Now I'm curious about the book. I like historical romances, but it's been years since I read them with any regularity. I, unfortunately, didn't have a copy suddenly appear in my account, so I guess I'll have to buy it. lol

Ooops .... pardon my use of intemperate language .... I certainly intended no offence.

Thank you for bringing me up to date on changes within the Romance genre.

No offense taken I just though you like to know in case you thought it was one and that would keep you from reading it or others who might come across it. I realized most people who do not read the genre still think it's stuck in that pattern. Romance is the most misunderstood fiction genre there is and I think people shy away from it because of the old school type of books that were published then. It's grown up and has become modern. We now have modern woman in a historical setting because most readers prefer it that way and that is what now sells.

I learned something new. I always though Bodice Ripper was just a mocking-term for all historical romance, not an outdated genre.

Interesting.

..and I must admit that I've never read any romance novels, but my wife quite enjoys Lynn Kurland, and tells me I would as well.

Yeah, me too, I learned something new. Thanks, Blossom!

I've always thought bodice ripper is a type of cover that shows a man and a woman in a suggestive pose with little clothing.

That term is used that way and also just as a general term to refer to romance (even when not mocking). It probably isn't used on romance threads, but it's used in a general sense by other readers on other forums (I know because I see it--it's also used quite often when a cover depicts some of the typical poses). It's used frequently on mystery forums that way.

It's sad it's used 95% wrong most of the time. Bodice rippers went out of publishing a long time ago. Most people just don't know any better and it's wrong to the authors who write historical romance to call their books that when you see what a bodice ripper was and what it contained. These are bodice rippers and they are not for the faint in heart to read.

Not for the faint of heart, indeed! Just look at the criteria the listmaker used for adding books to the list... /shudder/

I remember a lot of these from when I was a teenager.

In other news, someone needs to take the India store away from me. And the PERKOPOLIS code needs to stop working there. I bought ten books last night and am contemplating going shopping again.
