I think the Blake Crouch Wayward Pines series was originally self-published too. Whether it's rubbish is debatable, but M. Night Shyamalan and Fox liked it enough to make a TV series out of it.

My apologies to Jon.

There Will Be War Volume I Kindle Edition by Jerry Pournelle
Quote:
Created by the bestselling SF novelist Jerry Pournelle, THERE WILL BE WAR is a landmark science fiction anthology series that combines top-notch military science fiction with factual essays by various generals and military experts on everything from High Frontier and the Strategic Defense Initiative to the aftermath of the Vietnam War. It features some of the greatest military science fiction ever published, such Orson Scott Card’s “Ender’s Game” in Volume I and Joel Rosenberg’s “Cincinnatus” in Volume II. Many science fiction greats were featured in the original nine-volume series, which ran from 1982 to 1990, including Robert Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, Philip K. Dick, Gordon Dickson, Poul Anderson, John Brunner, Gregory Benford, Robert Silverberg, Harry Turtledove, and Ben Bova.

Thanks! I rather liked his Cobra series. For £0.99 I'm happy to see what this one's like.

My apologies; it's always been my understanding that internet forum posts are de facto "in my opinion"; I didn't realize that every post here is expected to be accompanied by that disclaimer.

I though you provided enough evidence that it wasn't just your opinion, but the opinion of at least a couple of panels of judges as well.

After all the deliberate damage Vox Day has done to the Hugo Award nominations, I'll never buy anything from his Castalia House or read with Kindle Unlimited unless I can buy them for free.

Yes, I saw the Castalia link and decided free was still too much.

Any book that Vox Day has anything to do with is very very much overpriced at free. I would have to be payed enough money to live comfortably for the rest of my life for me to read one of his books.

I believe all of the There Will Be War collections except the last one were originally published by another publisher and are only being reprinted by Castalia House. I'm hoping that any free editions "purchased" at Amazon (i.e., ones purchased for free and not read through Kindle Unlimited) actually cost Castalia House a download fee and some sort of royalties to the authors.

My paper copies all have Baen logos on them. I would have never even noticed a connection with another publisher, because Baen has been re-releasing lots of older work and I would have assumed the same for this. And I would NEVER buy a Baen book from Amazon, I'd go straight to Baen for that.

Stranger in a strange land

At least in the Italian shop, Stranger in a Strange Land (Hodder Great Reads) (English Edition) is €1.99, it says here it is the uncut version. I am not completely sure it is really the uncut version, as the number of pages is 530, which is the same as the amazon.com ebook. (https://www.amazon.com/Stranger-Stra...a+Strange+Land) which does not specify whether it is the cut / uncut version. It might still be good enough to snatch.
There was some discussion some time ago on how to distinguish between them, but I can't remember where.

If you are interested, Amazon.it address is:

https://www.amazon.it/Stranger-Stran...50JSR0JZJ23B9T

Usually when something is on offer in Italy, the same offer often applies to other European shops.
