Books 1 - 7 $38.29
Books 1 - 8 $38.29 (duh!)
Books 1 - 9 $48.49

If you need/want all but the first one (which was free a while back), it turns out the best way to do it is to get the 1 - 8 bundle and then buy the 9th title as a stand-alone since it is only $8.09 by itself ($4.05 w/ coupon), but $10.20 ($5.10 w/ coupon) as the marginal title in the 9-book bundle.

With that strategy it works out to CAD$24 and change (depending on provincial tax), or about $3-and-a-bit each if you need 2 - 9. (Obviously a bit less per title if you didn't pick up the free one a while back...)

9th title (Art and Murder): https://store.kobobooks.com/en-ca/eb...t-and-murder-1
NOTE: have to already be in the Canada store
Wow Sufue I was totally taken with all your calcs and so decided to go ahead and get the Kobo CA (+ code) Box set.

I initially checked out Amazon AU to see what was what and discovered that the first 9 books of the series are AUD2.99 each and the 3 x sets of box sets (as described by you) are all way more than $27. (And Kobo CA worked out at $20 ish)

So, then I bought book 9 from Amazon AU$2.99 and I thought I was cookin' with gas ...... yeah ..... until I went to download it and realised that in the first part of 2015 I'd already bought the 8 book set from Kobo (another account), and I'd broken my golden rule and not looked in Calibre first!

So, now I've made a phone call to Kobo CS who think they'll be able to refund it, because I haven't downloaded it. But, they don't know if their 'system' will accept the refund request.

Oh my what a drongo I can be sometimes

Amazon AU has got a lot of Helen MacInnes' books at $1.99, not sure why or for how long, but they're all over $6 on Kobo AU.

These books are in the main thrillers, or espionage, and some are set in WWII, or the Cold War. They are stand alone books.

The Hidden Target
blurb:
Spoiler:
For Nina O'Connell, a trip round the world was the holiday of a lifetime. Travelling in a group, she is surprised when she runs into an old flame. But Bob Renwick is not there by chance.

He is on the hunt for two terrorists who have left a trail of murder in their wake, and soon Nina is caught up in a grim game of life or death, from Bombay to Washington's political elite.

Cloak of Darkness
blurb:
Spoiler:
Bob Renwick, founder of counter-terrorist agency Interintell, is handed a list of names, compiled by the ruthless executive of an international munitions firm, intent on removing anyone in his way.

To be on the list means death, and Renwick's name is third. On a desperate mission from New York to Djibouti, Renwick must unmask his nemesis to save all he holds dear.

Assignment in Brittany (This is my first MacInnes book and I've got only a couple of dozen pages to go - it's excellent imo!)
blurb:
Spoiler:
Three hours ago he had stood on English earth. Three hours ago he had been Martin Hearne... Now he was Bertrand Corlay. Martin Hearn had been summoned by Military Intelligence and given an important mission - enter Nazi-occupied France to gather information about German activities in the area.

But to do so Hearn must impersonate a Frenchman to whom he bears an uncanny resemblance, and that includes having to fool the women in Corlay's life.

When it becomes clear that Corlay was not simply an innocent French civilian, Hearn finds himself playing an increasingly dangerous game to outwit his Nazi enemies.

Above Suspicion
blurb:
Spoiler:
Richard and Frances Myles are preparing for their annual European summer vacation in 1939 when they are visited at their Oxford college by old friend Peter Galt, who has a seemingly simple job for them.

Galt asks if they would start their holiday in Paris, meet a man there, and then continue their journey as he directs.

But in the heightened atmosphere of pre-war Europe, nobody is above suspicion, in fact the husband and wife are being carefully monitored by shadowy figures.

Soon the couple are racing across Europe and must use all their ingenuity to stay one step ahead of the enemy.

Horizon
blurb:
Spoiler:
British soldier Peter Lennox, a POW in an Italian prison camp, is still fighting his own war. An artist in civilian life, his hands bear the scars of wounds received during his capture at the fall of Tobruk, and he suspects he will never paint again.

The only thing that sustains him is plotting his escapes, no matter how many times he is recaptured. But in September 1943 the Italians surrender to the Allies, and Lennox is free.

Wanting nothing more than to return to the fighting, he is instead assigned to the mountains of the South Tyrol as a liaison to a desperate band of resistance fighters.

With little more than courage and knowledge of the local terrain, Lennox and his comrades must help pave the way for an Allied push that may change the course of the war.

Neither Five nor Three
blurb:
Spoiler:
Paul Haydn was on his way home at last, to New York and the civilian life he longed for, after years of War.

Yet he would never forget the tormented people, desperate for refuge in Berlin. They had survived the War - but now a new, sinister presence threatened them, their families, the whole of society.

Now he discovered that, back home, some of his former colleagues had dangerous political sympathies, that someone was trying to discredit the woman he had once loved. The pattern seemed suddenly familiar.

He began to realise why there was such interest in his counter-propaganda skills.

Snare of the Hunter
blurb:
Spoiler:
Irina Kusak's recently divorced husband, Jiri Hr ádek, is a high-ranking official in the Czechoslovakian secret police: cruel, ambitious, utterly ruthless. So when he turns a blind eye to her defection to the west, she is uneasy.

Aided in her escape by a group of friends, including David Mennery, an American with whom she once had a passionate affair, Irina begins to feel herself truly free. But soon their journey becomes a nightmare.

It becomes clear that Hr ádek only allowed Irina to defect in order to bait a trap for her father, a world-famous author living in secrecy in the west, but when she refuses to lead Hr ádek to his quarry, Irina herself becomes his prime target.
As Hr ádek closes in and Irina's life hangs in the balance, David Mennery is drawn into a desperate fight to protect her and finds himself once more falling deeply in love...

Prelude to Terror (A Robert Renwick novel)
blurb:
Spoiler:
Art may soothe the soul and stimulate the mind but it doesn't save one's life from terrorists' bombs or bullets.” New York art expert Colin Grant takes on an easy commission: to travel to Vienna and bid on a priceless Old Master on behalf of a Texan millionaire.

The painting has been smuggled out of Hungary by a defector, and Grant must get it at any cost, while keeping his employer's name a secret. But all is not as it seems. No sooner has Grant landed in Austria than his seemingly simple assignment turns into a nightmare, as he finds himself at the centre of a conspiracy to unleash a wave of international terrorism.

Grant must now navigate a hidden and terrifying world, as he and the woman he loves become pawns in a war between the secret armies of East and West.

The Double Image
blurb:
Spoiler:
While carrying out research in Paris, American historian John Craig is surprised when he runs into his old college professor.

Sussman is a worried man. A survivor of Auschwitz, he is in shock, having seen and been seen by one of the Nazis who tortured him in the camp. But SS Colonel Berg has been dead for ten years - or has he?

Before Craig can help solve the riddle, Sussman is found dead and Craig is being questioned by the police. As various international organisations are drawn into the hunt for Sussman's killer, he realises that the ex-Nazi is far more than just a wanted war criminal.

Soon Craig's search for the truth takes him from Paris to the island of Mykonos, where he must unmask a dangerous and powerful foe.

Pray for a Brave Heart
blurb:
Spoiler:
It was 1953, and nothing could shake William Denning's resolve to leave the army and return to the States. Nothing, except one of the largest diamond hauls ever - which, in the wrong hands, on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain, was a potentially lethal force.

In a small village in the Swiss mountains, Denning discovered that there was not only a jewellery robbery at stake. In the ruthless world of espionage and international conspiracy his adversaries were the most unlikely people - and the most dangerous.

The Salzburg Connection
blurb:
Spoiler:
He demanded the immediate dispatch of two suitably trained operatives to Salzburg. Extreme measures might be necessary.

In 1945, with their thousand-year empire falling around them and the Allies on their heels, the Nazis hide a sealed chest in the dark, forbidding waters of the Finstersee - a lake surrounded by the brooding peaks of the Austrian Alps.

There it lies for twenty-one years, almost forgotten, until a British agent decides to raise it from the depths. The secrets he uncovers are far-reaching and lethal, and in Salzburg, Bill Mathison, a New York attorney on the trail of a missing colleague, finds himself drawn into the shadowy underworld of international espionage.

Not knowing who to trust amidst the chaos, he is drawn to two beautiful women, one of whom will betray him.

Ride a Pale Horse
blurb:
Spoiler:
When Karen Cornell, a beautiful journalist on assignment in Czechoslovakia, agrees to help a would-be defector by carrying top-secret documents to Washington, she is pulled into an astonishing web of terrorism, political assassination, blackmail, espionage, and treason in the highest levels of both superpowers.

One false move could cost Karen her life - and throw the world into a violent war.

Agent in place
blurb:
Spoiler:
Chuck Kelso is an idealist. When he steals a top-secret NATO memorandum, he only intends to leak it to the press; but it is soon in the hands of a Russian agent, a man who has spent nine years quietly working himself into the fabric of Washington society.

Within hours it has reached the KGB, and the CIA's top man in Moscow has had his cover blown. For British agent Tony Lawton, hunting down the Russian operative - the 'agent in place' - is a welcome challenge.

But for Chuck's brother, the journalist Tom Kelso, and his beautiful wife, Thea, the affair has unleashed a very special terror. Now the race is on to find the Russian spy before a top-level NATO conference. But why is the escaped agent behaving so strangely? Is he who he seems?

Amazon UK: £1.99 ( a number of them)
Amazon CA: Above Suspicion $1.99 (Only one on special)
Amazon US: $1.50 (a number of them)

I don't see that any of these are on special at usual Kobo stores, but they are under AUD3 at India store.

Partner in Crime is the 16th in the J. P. Beaumont series, or 10th in the Sheriff Joanna Brady series - take your pick. Oh yeah, it's by J. A. Jance. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Partner-Crime.../dp/B000FC13A4

Spoiler:
Quote:
The dead woman was an artist recently arrived from Washington State, cruelly cut down in the early stages of a promising career. Now all that remains of Rochelle Baxter lies on a cold slab in the Cochise County morgue, and Sheriff Joanna Brady knows that murder has once again infected her small desert community. But there is more to this homicide than initially meets the eye—and more to the victim, who died while supposedly under the conscientious protection of the government.

A big-city legal establishment has no faith in the abilities of a small-town Sheriff, let alone a female sheriff. Instructed to swallow her indignation, Joanna awaits the arrival of the "help" Washington's attorney general is sending her: the newest member of the state's Special Homicide Investigation team—a man named Beaumont.

Bisbee, Arizona, is the last place J.P. Beaumont wants to be. The ghosts of a painful past are too numerous there, and his reluctant "partner," Sheriff Brady, resents his intrusion and cannot help but make her feelings known.

But the road they are forced to travel together is taking some unexpected turns, running two dedicated servants of the law headfirst into the impenetrable stone walls of a shocking conspiracy of silence. For Brady and Beaumont's hunt is disturbing a very deadly nest of rattlers, and suddenly trust is the only option they have. On their own in the Arizona desert, they know death can be cold and quick. And nobody is watching their backs here...they'll have to watch each other's.

Chicago PI Georgia Davis: Box Set of Three contains the first three titles in the (you guessed it) Georgia Davis series by Libby Fischer Hellmann. The first two, at least, were traditionally published, because I used to have them in DTB, picked up at a library book sale, although they did not ever make it to the top of my TBR pile before I quit reading DTB. Not sure about the third which, according to the blurb, is really a prequel. The box set is $0.99 at Kindle US for about 1 3/4 more days.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Chicago-PI-Ge...dp/B01HN6L0IO/

Spoiler:
Quote:
PI Georgia Davis burst on the scene in Libby Fischer Hellmann's EASY INNOCENCE (2008). That was followed in 2009 by DOUBLEBACK, which reunited Georgia with Ellie Foreman. TOXICITY, the prequel to the series was released in 2011. Now all three are together in one volume at a very affordable price.

Easy Innocence: A teen girl is killed during a high school hazing. Was it the man with the bat? How far will teen girls go for acceptance from their peers?

Doubleback: Georgia Davis and Ellie Foreman track a killer who kidnapped a little girl from Chicago, through Wisconsin, to the Mexican border

ToxiCity: A prequel when Georgia was still a cop. A serial killer is leaving bodies in dumpsters and landfills.

Free on Amazon UK - Meaner Things by David Anderson

Spoiler:
Emma ran out on Michael ten years ago when they were university students. Since then, their lives have taken very different paths: hers to a luxurious lifestyle and international big business; his to a tiny bachelor suite and a succession of dead-end jobs. Now Emma has reappeared in Mike's life and needs his help to bring down a very powerful, very bad man - her husband.

As Emma discovered a decade ago, Mike has one outstanding skill, namely the ability to plan and execute even the most difficult heist. Mike reluctantly agrees to reboot these shady talents, this time for a righteous cause. In the process he finds new purpose filling his previously empty life. With the help of Charlie, an old friend and master of gadgetry, Mike begins to infiltrate the target building, a seemingly impregnable downtown Vancouver high-rise.

But despite falling in love with Emma all over again Mike is still unsure if he can depend on her. Will she let him down once more? Should he heed Charlie's misgivings about her? Can the co-conspirators trust each other long enough to pull off a heist so complex and dangerous it makes Ocean's Eleven look like a walk in the park?

The fate of them all hangs in the balance...

The Last King of Texas is the third in the Tres Navarre series by Rick Riordan (yes, same Rick Riordan as Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, but not the same as Richard Riordan, the former mayor of Los Angeles ). It is $1.99 at Kindle US.

Quote:
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series

Multiple-award-winning author Rick Riordan brings back smart-mouthed Texas P.I. Tres Navarre for his most dangerous case yet. If you think the academic world is deadly dull, you're half right....

When a controversial English professor is found shot to death, Tres Navarre — P.I. and Ph.D. — is the only local academic crazy enough to accept the emergency opening at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Police assure him they already have a suspect, so while they wrap up the open-and-shut case, all Tres has to do is teach three classes, grade on a curve ... and walk in a dead man's shoes.

It should be an easy assignment — but one thing Tres doesn't do is easy. When the evidence in the case starts looking a little too perfect, when the killing doesn't stop, Tres takes on some extracurricular research into the heart of an assassin — and lands in a high-stakes game of gangster honor on the darkest streets of San Antonio's West Side....

First in a new series from the author of the Celebration Bay mysteries

In 1895, the height of the Gilded Age, the social elite spend their summers in Newport, Rhode Island. Within the walls of their fabulous “cottages,” competition for superiority is ruthless … and so are the players.

During her first Newport season, Deanna Randolph attends a ball given in honor of Lord David Manchester, a Barbadian sugar magnate, and his sister, Madeline. The Manchesters are an immediate success—along with their exotic manservant and his fortune-telling talents.

But on the nearby cliffs, a young maid lies dead—and suspicion falls on Joseph Ballard, a member of one of the town’s most prestigious families.

Joe humiliated Deanna when he rebuffed an engagement to her, but while he may be a cad, she knows he isn’t a killer. Now the reluctant allies must navigate a world of parties, tennis matches, and séances to find the real murderer. But a misstep among the glittering upper classes could leave them exposed to something far more dangerous than malicious gossip…

Free on Amazon UK - An Unsuitable Death by J M Gregson

Spoiler:
The lurid news of ‘The Sacristan’ had plagued the headlines for months.

Victims' bodies were deposited in quiet churches or graveyards.

When the body of a beautiful young woman is found in Hereford Cathedral, it appears he has struck again.

Appointed to the case, DSI Lambert and DS Hook soon come to realise however that nothing about this case — or indeed its victim — is as straightforward as it first appears…

Delving into the history of the victim - Tamsin Rennie - they discover a number of sinister characters, each with their own dark motives.

But what’s more disturbing is that this murder bears little resemblance to The Sacristan Murders.

They suspect that a resourceful new killer is within their midst.

With little known about this new assailant, and a number of potential suspects, Lambert and Hook have to solve one of the most puzzling cases they have ever encountered.

Free on Amazon UK - Final Toll by Roger Ormerod

Spoiler:
The day Johnny Parfitt is released from prison, a truck driver offers him a lift.

Johnny used to be a driver — until Den talked him into stealing a wagon load of scotch.

The plan went disastrously wrong and only Johnny was caught, leaving Den free to move into his home and in with Laura.

So when Johnny discovers that the truck is carrying twenty tons of whisky, he steals the rig and heads for Den, twisting down narrow lanes, crossing the deserted Prescott's Bridge.

The narrow suspension bridge buckles under the weight of the truck and Johnny is trapped, hanging in mid-air between two cliffs, buffeted by the raging storm.

Engineer Colin Marson is called in to direct an impossible rescue.

Battling the elements, local bureaucrats and his own misgivings, can he get Johnny out alive before the bridge plummets into the swelling river?

And Marson has one other piece of vital information: the cliffs from which the bridge is suspended are beginning to crumble…
