Code of Conduct by Kristine Smith (The Jani Kilian Chronicles Book 1) is currently 99c. This deal seems to be 99c or similar in multiple countries so check your local store. Published via Book View Cafe so DRM free. (Originally published by Avon Eos)

https://www.amazon.com/Code-Conduct-.../dp/B0188C70P4
https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/eb...e-of-conduct-7

Captain Jani Kilian’s life should have ended in front of a firing squad. Instead, she evaded battlefield justice by dying in a transport crash. End of story, according to official Commonwealth Service records.

But doctors repaired her in secret, using the most advanced Service Medical technologies available, or so they assured her. In the last days of the idomeni civil war, she escaped their homeworld of Shèrá, and spent the next 18 years on the run.

But someone like Jani leaves a trail no matter how hard they try to hide it, and she soon learns the Service hunt for her never ended. When Interior Minister Evan van Reuter, her former lover, tracks her down and begs her help in finding his wife’s killer, she has no choice but to agree.

The search takes her to the Commonwealth capital of Chicago, a hotbed of political intrigue as dangerous as any warzone. As the danger mounts, so do Jani’s struggles. Her rebuilt body is breaking down, and memories long suppressed are flooding back. Of one horrible night 18 years ago, and the gut-wrenching decision that changed her life forever.

is $2.99 at

Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...541#nav-subnav

Kobo: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/the-black-prism

Below is the blurb:
Gavin Guile is the Prism, the most powerful man in the world. He is high priest and emperor, a man whose power, wit, and charm are all that preserves a tenuous peace. But Prisms never last, and Guile knows exactly how long he has left to live: Five years to achieve five impossible goals.

But when Guile discovers he has a son, born in a far kingdom after the war that put him in power, he must decide how much he's willing to pay to protect a secret that could tear his world apart.

Blackout by Connie Willis is $1.99 in the US

https://www.amazon.com/Blackout-All-.../dp/B0030DHPGG
https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/blackout-25

Oxford in 2060 is a chaotic place, with scores of time-traveling historians being sent into the past. Michael Davies is prepping to go to Pearl Harbor. Merope Ward is coping with a bunch of bratty 1940 evacuees and trying to talk her thesis adviser into letting her go to VE-Day. Polly Churchill’s next assignment will be as a shopgirl in the middle of London’s Blitz. But now the time-travel lab is suddenly canceling assignments and switching around everyone’s schedules. And when Michael, Merope, and Polly finally get to World War II, things just get worse. For there they face air raids, blackouts, and dive-bombing Stukas—to say nothing of a growing feeling that not only their assignments but the war and history itself are spiraling out of control. Because suddenly the once-reliable mechanisms of time travel are showing significant glitches, and our heroes are beginning to question their most firmly held belief: that no historian can possibly change the past.

Reliquary (Reliquary Series Book 1) by Sarah Fine from the 47North imprint

Mattie Carver’s engagement party should have marked the start of her own personal fairy tale. But when her fiancé, Ben, is violently abducted the next morning, her desperate quest to find him rips her away from small-town life and reveals a shattering truth: magic is real—and Ben is hooked. It’s not the stuff of storybooks. It’s wildly addictive, capable of producing everything from hellish anguish to sensual ecstasy almost beyond human endurance.

I don't think you'd miss that much if you haven't read the others, they aren't that connected, though a few characters from the Doomsday Book do appear. What's more important is that this is basically the first part of a 2-part novel so you wouldn't get the conclusion of the story without buying All Clear.

This book was also a bit more challenging to get into than Willis' others, it jumped around a bit between different characters in different times and took me a while to put everything together, but quite good once it got going.

Listen, don't mention the Discworld! I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it all right.

I agree with Ashartus, and I'm pretty sure Fire Watch isn't really canon.

Cecilia Dart-Thornton's The Bitterbynde Trilogy (The Ill-Made Mute, The Lady of the Sorrows, and The Battle of Evernight) omnibus edition is $2.51 at Amazon US at the moment.

I think I read these when they first came out last decade, and I re-read the first this year. I'd emphatically recommend that people look at an excerpt before buying this, if they're unfamiliar with the author - she has an unusual, flowing, arguably slow-moving/long-winded/thesaurus-loving style that definitely gets complaints from some. Her writing is steeped in Celtic folklore and the courtly tradition.

Quote:
A breathtaking epic fantasy of love, war, rebirth, and magical destiny based on the haunting folklore of England, Ireland, and Scotland unfolds across a vivid landscape of wonder and peril

In The Ill-Made Mute, a wretched, nameless mute awakens without a memory in a lofty tower upon whose battlements winged horses and flying ships make landfall. The amnesiac longs to escape and roam the wild landscape in search of a past, a name, and a destiny. But the tales the servants whisper by the hearth all turn out to be true: The legendary creatures that plague the world beyond the castle walls are real and innumerable. Travelers in this beautiful, eerie wilderness must beware. . . .

The Lady of the Sorrows begins with a newly minted lady carrying important tidings to the King-Emperor of Caermelor. In her heart, she longs to encounter the king’s ranger Thorn, but upon reaching the royal court she learns that the ruler and his men have gone to war against the forces of wickedness that are threatening the realms of mortals. As the maiden awaits their return, a dreadful suspicion unfolds: The brutal Lord Huon and his monstrous Wild Hunt are attacking again and again—is she the target they seek?

In The Battle of Evernight, the Lady of the Sorrows must save her loved ones from catastrophe by uncovering the secrets of her past. She journeys to the terrible fortress of the Raven Prince in Evernight, despite the Bitterbynde curse that is distorting her memories and the onset of a debilitating malady for which a cure may never be found. As a battle for the destiny of the world begins, the lady must make a fateful decision. If she reveals what she knows, she will liberate 2 worlds—or incite the downfall of everything she loves.
