What about when we are comparing Windows to linux, rather than engaging in catfights?

for /f %%D in ('wmic volume get DriveLetter^, Label ^| find "yourLabel"') do set usb=%%D

It ain't pretty, but supposedly it gets the job done. (I didn't try these myself since I am under OS X at the moment.)
Ugly! Eyeball burn!

Thanks. I will keep this in mind.

Like I said an occasional aside isn't a problem but, really how relevant are linux mount names to somebody wondering if they're eligible for a Win10 upgrade?

The thread isn't about the merits of Windows vs anything else; the people popping in here are already living in Windows. They just want to hear about Win 10 vs Win7. If they were interested in linux they wouldn't be interested in Win10 upgrades to start with.

Well, there is always this recent post:

http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwin...review-builds/

To summarize: it looks like participants of the Windows Insider program get free updates if they register with the program correctly. That post includes instructions.

Clearly this is not the case since a large number of posts relate to Windows in contrast to Linux. Very few posts compare Windows 10 to older versions of Windows. I'm not certain as to why this is the case. Surely I'm not the only person who has read this thread who is participating in the program and uses Windows 10 more-or-less daily.

I will also question the bit about those who are interested in Linux not being interested in Windows 10 (as well as why you respect Windows as a proper noun by capitalizing it, but disrespect Linux by not affording it the same ). Some of us are interested in the state of multiple operating systems after all.

By whom? How many of the different posters in the thread?

Look, I'm not going to get dragged into a fight.
I said my piece.
My shoulder is chipless and my skin plenty thick.

And if need be I can always start another thread.

Toodles!

A link with information on how to obtain a free copy of Windows 10 was included in my post. One way to avoid being dragged into a fight is to build upon that, rather than on the distasteful content.

Apparently Yes.

I think your post is the second or third attempt to get the Linux pod people from hijacking this thread.

All the more reason to have your very own thread.

Is it really appropriate to call people names and imply their motives?

If so, can I point out that it is Windows users who seem to be more intent on hijacking the thread by stating that Linux has no place in it? (I have no desire to call Windows users names, so I won't request permission to do so.)

May I also point out that some of us, well at least myself, are OS enthusiasts. It is interesting to discuss the differences between the respective operating systems, particularly as they move forward?

May I also point out that a lot of the Linux users are downright civil in comparison to their counterparts? (Examples: not trying to shut down threads in the discussion, less name calling.)

Or perhaps I shouldn't seek permission since I suspect that the answers are: yes, no, no, and no.

Compared to batch files, yes. Compared to PowerShell, I don't have enough knowledge to comment one way or the other.

I'm with wodin and fjtorres here. This thread is about the Windows 10 upgrade, and I for one am tired of wading through acres of crap about drive designations and Linux.

It depends on the programmer.

Windows shell files can look just as pretty as any other language. And I assume that Linux shell files can do this also.

Unfortunately, most programmers don't have a clue how to format shell files.
