You should contact Amazon as you've bought a copy that's not legal. Amazon does not check self published eBooks or this would have been caught and not allowed in the first place. Amazon needs to stop the automated publishing and validate all published eBooks.

One other way to know these are not legit is that they are showing the UK cover and not the US cover. The wrong cover, no copyright page, and not available at any other store in the US means this is a fake and needs to be taken down.

Dragonsong would never be published DRM free. That's another show that it's not legitimate.

As for the Apple, that copy is also bogus. There is no legitimate US endtions for the Haper Hall Trilogy. So any copy being sold is being sold from sites that are run by stupid people who don't check what's posted there.

Yep. I missed the fact that they were self-published. Maybe in the back of my mind I didn't think that I needed to consider the possibility because there are so blooming many of them. I apologize to one and all.

If they're self-pubbed, fit the "Free/Bargain" stipulation, and you have a reason to recommend them (like lots of good reviews, for instance) I think it would be alright to start a thread after the stickies. I've done it occasionally for indies that I liked and that had gone on sale.

I could not figure out how to contact amazon by email about this issue so I emailed transworld directly. I figure they can handle it if its not legit.

You may be right but both those reasons are just assertions.

Has Tod McCaffrey or Anne McCaffrey's literary estate declared their love for DRM ? And vowed never to contract with TOR ?

I tried to notify Amazon about an edition of The Grapes of Wrath which I believe was not authorized by the Steinbeck estate.

Amazon wanted me to prove that I was the copyright holder or its legal representative. I agree, Amazon needs to do its due diligence and not rely on other parties to do its policing for them.

If you have read the book and liked it, then by all means mention it in the appropriate sticky thread. The rule is only for self-published books that the recommender hasn't personally read and liked.
