I'm set to begin reading Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life for my Biology class. The Kingsolver family spends a year eating only home-grown or local foods, and in fact they give up vegetarianism for that year. It seems as if it'll be quite interesting.

I can have a couple of books on the go at the same time, so I'm halfway through 'The Bourne Identity' by Robert Ludlum in PB, 'Consider Phlebas' by Iain M. Banks in PB again, and Robert Heinlein's excellent 'Friday' in ebook format.

I've never read anytthing by Iain Banks before, and have three books on the shelves, so thought I'd give it a go while I waited for the delivery of my dedicated reader... Plus I've got a BIG list list ebooks ready....

I just started The Guild of the Cowry Catchers, Book 2: Flames, Deluxe Illustrated Edition by Abigail Hilton.

I really enjoyed the first book. This one picks up right where the first one left off, and in a just few chapters all of the action & adventure has come roaring back. My favorite elements of these books, however, are the characters and their continued development.

I also hope to start The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin sometime in the next week or so. I not only want tot read it as part of our book club, but, also out of pure curiosity. He seems like a very interesting person.

Finished The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Siddhartha Mukherjee last night.

A large, well written, very readable discussion on Cancer, it's history and the ups and downs of treatment through the centuries. I highly recommend it.

Well, it depends on your definition of cheering.

Considerable progress has been made in recent years. Some cancers are now, if not curable, are at least controllable. Screening is now catching some cancers early enough that the patient has a long-term outlook.

Still, one of the conclusions of the book is that cancers are so intrinsically linked to the human genome that they are probably never going away.

Well, I finished _The Ark_ and it was a good book. Interesting ideas about the "truth" of Noah's Ark that I felt were slightly plausible. I give this one 3.5 of 5 stars. However, it was not as good at _Rouge Wave_ in my opinion.

I started the third Mistborn book, _Hero of the Ages_... I wanted to get to this one soon since I had recently finished book two.

I've started The Imperfectionists, a series of (vaguely) related stories. The first couple of stories were sad, but quite well written.

Those books, they will jump into your checkout bin while you're standing in line. Happens to me with little homeless plants in the nursery center ALL the time. I have NO room for more flowers or veggies, yet, somehow, a few more make it into the cart...
