It was the image of Marlon Brando lurching around the garden that gave it to me. From the book I mostly remember things that didn't make it to the movie, like Lucy Mancini's problem with her body.

Here's an easy seasonal one:

One dollar and eighty-seven cents. That was all. And sixty cents of it was in pennies. Pennies saved one and two at a time by bulldozing the grocer and the vegetable man and the butcher until one's cheeks burned with the silent imputation of parsimony that such close dealing implied.

Yup. Heartwarming and heartbreaking. I bet little kids today don't read Match Girl. Everything for their consideration has been expurgated.

Sticking with Christmas and heartwarming/breaking, there's this quote to consider:
