You can use both your PW4 and Colorsoft for deDRMing Kindle books, no matter the firmware. Jailbreaking is not needed.

Can anyone confirm xyzzy_foo method still works? For me it was working fine till yesterday. Now I reinstalled kindle_4.17.0.146 and it doesnt download any files. Says "Books not available on this version". Cant see any files on rooted kindle foler also.

Perhaps a re-read of message #787 might be in order. Note the then updated to K4A 8.53.0.100!

I mean i already used that method for a month and successfully got my purchased books. Last week itself it was working fine. Then I tried to load the .kfx into calibre then it didnt remove the drm. So I reinstalled the 4.17 version in LDPlayer. After signing in cant download the book. previous map_data_storage.db is still loaded in calibre dedrm. I updated kfx i/o plugins. Maybe thats the culprit?

You can't download books with the version 4.17. Amazon has disabled it.

Sorry .I have updated 8.53.0.100 .. downloaded a book..then copied it in pc local folder. Then loaded it into calibre. It loads drm locked kfx. I have done this process successfully many times in the past month.. I updated only kfx i/o plugins..tried nodrm and alpha version dedrm also

Update : I was using calibre 5.32 which I guess is incompatible with the latest kfx input plugin. I updated the latest calibre version and everything works perfect now.!

I followed xyzzy_foo directions on 787. But after adding the book files downloaded from K4A to Calibre they don't recognize them? I mean they see them but I do not get a book when its done adding, its something that cant be opened or read. I have the latest version of calibre, kfx in/out and dedrm. Any ideas?

Which directory would that be? After I downloaded the books there were 3 new folders in android/data/com.amazon.kindle/files. I assumed each folder was a book. But in each folder is several different files. So I tried copying each file over from Bluestacks to PC and put each file in their own seperate folders. Tried batch adding one set of files from a folder and it ended up with several kfx files added but were unreadable. Am I wrong in thinking they would need compiled into a complete book at some point? Does Calibre even do that?

Sorry to make this a long post but heres what I've done.

1. Installed bluestacks, made android 11 instance, rooted it.

2. Installed K4A 4.17.0.146, copied map data storage (should note I found 2 of them in different directories related to kindle. both the same file size)

3. Added the db to dedrm in Calibre

4.Made a 2nd android 11 instance, rooted it.

5. Installed K4A 8.53.0.100 (should note there were 2 apks of this same version and I installed the one with the latest date I believe), downloaded the books, found the new folders in the above mentioned directory and copied each one over to PC.

6. In Calibre hit add books, selected one of the new folders and all the files in it.

End result unusable/readable kfx added.

You want to leave things in their original folder structure. Only add the main book file to calibre. KFX Input takes care of gathering up the other needed files into one. At least that's how it works with other methods. I haven't actually dealt with kfx from Kindle for Android myself.

Yeah, I haven't been able to reply to it because I was exhausted, and I had a lot to do today as well... So, now that you've asked for help here, I don't need to reply to the PM anymore.

I'm sure your method is wrong, but the solution is simple.
Don't use two instances. You just needed to install K4A 4.17.0.146, log in, and then, while keeping the session active, update to K4A 8.53.0.100. The map_data_storage.db file is the encryption key itself, but since different sessions create different encryption keys, it's no wonder you failed.

At least, regarding this method itself, it has no connection to noDRM, and since I'm the who developed it, people keep sending me random PMs about it...

PS. There are two APKs for 8.53.0.100: armeabi-v7a is for ARM32, and arm64-v8a is for ARM64. Please choose based on the bitness of your instance.

All good I figured you were busy or had been asked too many times and didn't feel like explaining which I get lol. I didn't think about there being different sessions since it was a cloned instance and the same account. Funny I made 2 in case there was an issue and I wouldn't need to swap back and forth the apks. Which map storage db should I grab? or does that matter? Currently looking at one in root/data/data/com.amazon.kindle/databases.

Also I don't mind continuing in PM as from what I've read most of this is trying to be kept hush hush. I am just running out of time as the books I am trying to move around are tied to unlimited which expires in a few days unless I want to keep the membership.
