Whoa! The author's name evoked an image of Diana Rayburn, a character in the Netflix Original Series, Bloodline (I probably watch too much TV). Thanks for sharing this deal; I've added the author and series to my TBR list.

The Pot Thief Who Studied Billy the Kid is the sixth in the excellent (IMO) Pot Thief series by J. Michael Orenduff. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle US (and probably other places, and since it's an Open Road title, should be couponable at Kobo US).

These are a little reminiscent of Lawrence Block's Burglar series, or maybe a bit Aaron and Charlotte Elkin's Alix London series, but have their own flavor, and I like the southwestern US setting.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Thief-Studied.../dp/B00HO12CUO

Spoiler:
Quote:
Trapped in a cave dwelling, Hubie stumbles upon a not-so-ancient mystery

Although his work is technically illegal, Hubie Schuze has no qualms with digging up ancient Native American artifacts. The government calls him a thief, but Hubie thinks of himself as a treasure hunter—and his latest quest could be his last. After lowering himself into a cave in search of Anasazi pottery, Hubie uncovers a long-dead corpse, buried where the Anasazi would never have left a body. As he puzzles over this discovery, he hears a chilling sound: his truck, left behind on the cliff face, being driven away. Stranded in the cave, the pot thief has only a corpse to keep him company.

After a narrow escape, Hubie returns with his best friend, Susannah, to try to identify the dead man. What they find instead is a mystery that takes them back not to the days before Columbus, but to the Wild West of Billy the Kid.

The Pot Thief Who Studied Billy the Kid is the 6th book in the Pot Thief Mysteries, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

A little while later (after verification), I got a response from Camilla Shestopal at Peters Fraser & Dunlop, which is a legitimate literary agency in the UK that appears to administer the Margery Allingham estate. The short story is Caeser's Wife's Elephant, and although I haven't had a chance to read it yet, it is an Albert Campion story. The email indicates that this story, "until now, has been seen only by the Margery Allingham society".

Yeah, I signed up for this too, and enjoyed the short story. There has been only a minimal amount of email since, so I've not yet un-subscribed.

And now Mystery Mile, the second Albert Campion title, has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US. I hope this starts a trend again...

Spoiler:
Quote:
Classic Crime from the Golden Age, the second in the Albert Campion Series. Margery Allingham is J.K. Rowling's favourite Golden Age author.

The notoriously deadly Simister gang is after judge Crowdy Lobbett. Lobbett managed to escape death several times already but the fear for his life is never worse when some of his close friends begin to disappear mysteriously. In a moment of utter desperation the judge turns for help to the enigmatic and unassuming amateur sleuth, Albert Campion.

Campion convinces Lobbett that the safest place to hide is the remote country house in Mystery Mile in Suffolk, but the detective realises how wrong he was when strange accidents begin to happen there and the judge's life is more in danger than ever. Will Albert Campion manage to win the race against time and save Lobbett? Will he solve the enigma of the enemy's name?

Mystery Mile, first published in 1930, is second of the Margery Allingham novels starring eccentric amateur sleuth, Albert Campion, and his indispensible butler and bodyguard, Magersfontein Lugg.

All three of these have just dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US - no idea why or for how long.

A Dangerous Talent, #1
link: https://www.amazon.com/Dangerous-Tal.../dp/B005Y0BYE2
Spoiler:
Quote:
Alix London has a promising career as an art consultant, a sumptuous condo in Seattle’s toniest neighborhood, a gorgeous figure, and a presence that exudes Ivy League breeding and old money. She has it all…or does she? Only Alix knows that the image she presents to the world is a carefully constructed mirage that veils an embarrassing truth. A brilliant, once-promising art student, the daughter of a prominent New York art conservator, her world was left in ruins when her father went to prison for art forgery. Now a Harvard dropout with an emptied bank account, she is languishing in a career that has produced little more than a lucky house-sitting gig. But all of that changes when Alix meets Christine Lemay, a novice art collector with money to burn and a hot tip on a recently discovered painting by American master Georgia O’Keeffe. Chris hires Alix to perform the authentication, an assignment that finally could launch Alix into the big leagues. But soon after her arrival in Santa Fe, she finds herself tangled up in a web of forgery, deceit—and murder. Anxious to avoid becoming the next victim, she teams up with FBI Special Agent Ted Ellesworth—and gets a little unlikely help from her roguish father—to uncover the truth behind the painting and those who would kill to have it. Sharp, witty, and devilishly fun, A Dangerous Talent offers an insider’s look into the surprisingly treacherous contemporary art world.

A Cruise to Die For, #2
link: https://www.amazon.com/Cruise-Die-Al.../dp/B00AR04IJC
This should be the cushiest job Alix London’s ever had.

Spoiler:
Quote:
The second Alix London mystery finds the art restorer in a world brimming with idle luxury, spectacular locations, and deadly intrigue.

Surrounded by art and wealth and the sun-drenched Greek isles, she’s aboard a sumptuous mega-yacht with no responsibilities save the occasional lecture to the guests of her temporary employer, Panos Papadakis, one of the world's richest men. But there’s a catch: Papadakis has long been suspected of being at the center of a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme and Alix is actually there as an undercover operative of FBI special agent Ted Ellesworth, a member of the Bureau’s Art Crime Team. They hope Alix can gather the inside information they need to finally put the cagey Papadakis away.

Alix’s exposure to the enormous wealth of high-end collectors and the shadier aspects of the art trade—the avarice, naked greed, and ingenious scams—somehow brings her closer to her charming, "reformed" rogue of a father, and helps crystalize in her own mind just where she fits into the mix.

Moguls, murders, a forged Manet, and the Albanian mafia all play a role and send this pleasure cruise into brutally dangerous waters.

Set on the Aegean—Homer's fabled "wine-dark sea"—with stops at enchanted islands where ancient legends still live, A Cruise to Die For delivers a witty blend of suspense and mystery, as well as an insider’s take on the contemporary art world and its eccentric characters. It’s all served up with the style and sophistication with which Charlotte and Aaron Elkins have rewarded mystery readers for the past 30 years.

The Art Whisperer, #3
link: https://www.amazon.com/Art-Whisperer.../dp/B00IO3TXYO
Spoiler:
Quote:
When art conservator Alix London spots a forgery, she knows trouble will follow. So she’s understandably apprehensive when her connoisseur’s eye spots something off about a multimillion-dollar Jackson Pollock painting at Palm Springs’s Brethwaite Museum—her current employer.

Alix is already under fire, the object of a vicious online smear campaign. Now the Brethwaite’s despicable senior curator, obsessed with the “maximization of monetized eyeballs,” angrily refuses to decommission the celebrated Pollock piece. But it’s only when a hooded intruder attacks Alix in her hotel room that the real trouble begins. And when FBI Special Agent Ted Ellesworth—with whom Alix had inadvertently, but thoroughly, botched a budding relationship just a year prior—turns up to investigate the Pollock, Alix knows she’s about to have her hands full.

In her third mystery, Alix London must see through mirages in the desert to uncover the knotted history of the painting—and save herself in the process.

A few random price drops, probably for the first of the month...

Moving Is Murder is the first in the Ellie Avery series by Sara Rosett. It has dropped to $1.99.
link: https://www.amazon.com/Moving-Murder.../dp/B004OA64B6
Spoiler:
Quote:
Meet military spouse, soccer mom, professional organizer, and savvy sleuth, Ellie Avery!

Moving four times in five years has honed Air Force wife Ellie Avery's packing and unpacking skills. But moving with a newborn daughter and husband Mitch in tow, during a heat wave, is enough to make her turn to chocolate for comfort. And when Ellie finds a local environmentalist dead on the side of the road, her instincts tell her this was no accident …

Ellie snoops into the activist's suspicious demise, only to realize she's getting closer to the killer . . . maybe too close! This first Ellie Avery mystery launched a series that continues to win readers' hearts.

Includes great tips for an organized move!

Miracles in Maggody is the 9th in the Arly Hanks series by Joan Hess. It has dropped to $1.99.
link: https://www.amazon.com/Miracles-Magg.../dp/B01ENRHK80
Spoiler:
Quote:
Another outrageous Maggody mystery, starring police chief Arly Hanks alongside a smooth-talking televangelist and a whole town full of sinners.

Some days, police chief Arly Hanks can’t help but see Maggody, Arkansas, as little more than a cesspool of poverty, ignorance, and incest—the kind of glorified trailer park that gives the South a bad name. But hey, it’s home. So when silver-tongued televangelist Malachi Hope swoops into town, with a revivalist laser light show and plans to build a Christian theme park, Arly worries her beloved, if crazy, neighbors are about to be swindled. But it’s Malachi who should be terrified.

As the town whips itself into revival fever, it’s all Arly can do to keep Maggody from coming apart at the seams. And when the girls’ basketball coach is found dead, Arly can’t help but suspect that the murder is related to Malachi’s tent meetings. To save Maggody from itself, Arly will risk everything—in this world and the hereafter.

What Carl Hiaasen did for Florida, Joan Hess has done for the Ozarks. This is a hilarious look at small-town greed and the irresistible madness of Maggody, Arkansas.

Miracles in Maggody is the 9th book in the Arly Hanks Mysteries, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

The Dark Place is the second in the excellent (IMO) Gideon Oliver series by Aaron Elkins. It has dropped to $1.99.
link: https://www.amazon.com/Dark-Place-Gi.../dp/B00J84KRUM
Spoiler:
Quote:
Gideon Oliver earns his moniker “The Skeleton Detective” in this riveting entry to the Edgar Award–winning mystery series “that never disappoints” (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

Deep in the primeval rainforest of Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula, the skeletal remains of a murdered man are discovered. And a strange, unsettling tale begins to unfold, for forensic anthropologist Gideon Oliver determines that the murder weapon was a primitive bone spear of a type not seen for the last ten thousand years. And whoever—or whatever—hurled it did so with seemingly superhuman force. Bigfoot “sightings” immediately crop up, but Gideon is not buying them.

But something is continuing to kill people, and Gideon, helped by forest ranger Julie Tendler and FBI special agent John Lau, plunges into the dark heart of an unexplored wilderness to uncover the bizarre, astonishing explanation.

Fans of authors Kathy Reichs and Tess Gerritsen and television shows like Bones will be fascinated by Aaron Elkins’s award-winning landmark forensic detective series.

Murder Out of Turn is the 2nd in the recently-pubbed-in-e-book and also excellent (IMO) Mr. and Mrs. North series by Richard and Frances Lockridge. I just bought the whole series with the Kobo unlimited 50% coupon and VIP discount a few days ago. This title has dropped to $2.99.
link: https://www.amazon.com/Murder-Turn-M.../dp/B01AVTU7H0
Spoiler:
Quote:
For Mr. and Mrs. North, there’s no vacation from murder

In a remote cabin far from New York City, Jerry and Pamela North are getting killed. On the brink of annihilation, they grit their teeth and battle back. In a moment, the fight is finished—and the Norths are named mixed doubles champions. It’s a happy moment during a splendid vacation, but off the tennis court, all is not well. After an afternoon of fun and games, the evening’s entertainment will be murder.

Mr. and Mrs. North have invited their closest friends—an ex-aviator, a mysterious doctor, and New York Police Department’s own Lt. William Weigand—to join them on this glittering retreat, but the joviality ends when Weigand finds Helen Wilson lying across the path, a knife buried in her neck. A member of the group surely killed her, and unless the Norths act quickly, the murderer will strike again.

Murder Out of Turn is the 2nd book in the Mr. and Mrs. North Mysteries, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

Two of the three translated-into-English titles from Martin Jensen's King's Hounds series have dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US. I loved the three titles that have been translated and desperately wish that AmazonCrossing would translate and publish more, but it has been quite a while since the third one, so I'm sadly thinking probably not...

The King's Hounds, #1
link: https://www.amazon.com/Kings-Hounds-.../dp/B00BCPEWQU
Spoiler:
Quote:
The first in the bestselling Danish series of historical mysteries
The newly crowned King Cnut of Denmark has conquered England and rules his new empire from Oxford. The year is 1018 and the war is finally over, but the unified kingdom is far from peaceful.

Halfdan’s mixed lineage—half Danish, half Saxon—has made him a pauper in the new kingdom. His father, his brother, and the land he should have inherited were all taken by the new king’s men. He lost everything to the war but his sense of humor. Once a proud nobleman, Halfdan now wanders the country aimlessly, powered only by his considerable charm and some petty theft. When he finds an unlikely ally in Winston, a former monk, he sees no reason not to accept his strange invitation to travel together to Oxford. Winston has been commissioned to paint a portrait of the king at the invitation of his new wife, and the protection of a clever man like Halfdan is well worth its price in wine and bread.

But when the pair’s arrival in court coincides with news of a murder, the king has a brilliant idea: Why not enlist the newly arrived womanizing half-Dane and the Saxon intellectual to defuse a politically explosive situation? The pair represents both sides of the conflict and seem to have crime-solving skills to boot. In their search for the killer, Halfdan and Winston find seduction, adventure, and scandal in the wild early days of Cnut’s rule.

Oathbreaker, #2
link: https://www.amazon.com/Oathbreaker-K.../dp/B00ELN0KCK
Spoiler:
Quote:
Halfdan and his master, Winston the Illuminator, are guests in a monastery when they’re awakened in the middle of the night and asked to solve a crime. A monk praying in the church has been brutally murdered, and his severed hand offers the first clue of a motive. As they investigate who could have committed such a heinous atrocity—and why—Halfdan and Winston must negotiate bitter rivalries within the monastery’s hierarchy, a sensitive class structure, and the tension between the new laws King Cnut has sworn to uphold and the codes of honor that precede them. With peace in England on shaky ground and the king’s favor of paramount importance, Halfdan and Winston follow a precarious path toward answers that no one is sure they want.

This second novel in Martin Jensen’s acclaimed King’s Hounds series delves deeply into a chaotic world where alliances change, but oaths are forever.

All three titles in the Robert Tarza/Jenna James series by Charles Rosenberg have dropped to $1.99 at Amazon US. They periodically do go on sale, so you may already have one or more.

Death on a High Floor, #1
link: https://www.amazon.com/Death-High-Fl.../dp/B00CD8AFOI
Spoiler:
Quote:
When much-despised Marbury Marfan senior partner Simon Rafer turns up in a cold pool of blood with an ornate dagger in his back, it comes as a surprise to no one—least of all to Robert Tarza, who is first on the scene. A long-time partner at Marbury, Tarza knows dozens of attorneys in the firm who had good motive to want Rafer in the ground. But despite his own decades of conflict with Rafer—and a recent heated quarrel over a rare ancient coin Simon bought from him—Robert never imagined that homicide Detective Spritz would zero in on him as prime suspect.

As Spritz’s case builds with uncanny speed, Robert quickly falls from his respected position at Marbury to a criminal being dragged through the tabloids. Along with his kick-butt defense attorney, Jenna James, he is forced to play detective in a race to find the real killer—and uncovers a web of fraud amongst his closest colleagues in the process. In the end, only Jenna’s untested trial skills can keep him out of prison.

Revised edition: This edition of Death on a High Floor includes editorial revisions.

Long Knives, #2
link: https://www.amazon.com/Long-Knives-C.../dp/B00ESNCAGC
Spoiler:
Quote:
Jenna James’s life has been smooth sailing since she left the high-powered law firm of Marbury Marfan. She’s happily ensconced as a professor at a prestigious law school, where she’s well liked by her students, coupled-up with a handsome colleague, and on track for tenure. But things take a shocking turn one morning when a student, Primo, comes to Jenna’s office seeking her advice about a treasure map he recently inherited. When Primo turns up dead and Jenna is suddenly the prime suspect in a murder investigation, everyone turns on her. Desperate for help, she calls on two old friends: Robert Tarza, her old law partner from Marbury Marfan, and Oscar Quesana, an odd-duck solo practitioner. The three race to save Jenna’s career—and perhaps her life—in this whip-smart thriller of treasure maps, murder, and law school politics.

Paris Ransom, #3
link: https://www.amazon.com/Paris-Ransom-.../dp/B00Q74VXQS
Spoiler:
Quote:
Lawyer Robert Tarza is surprised when his young, beautiful and wealthy French girlfriend, Tess, proposes marriage. It’s not that he doesn’t love her, but even after five years, there’s a lot about her he doesn’t know.

But Robert has to put his personal life on hold when his friend Oscar Quesana shows up outside Tess’s Parisian apartment clutching a mysterious package, with a thief hot on his heels. Oscar has somehow acquired a priceless old book.

When Robert and his former protégée, Jenna James, see Oscar shoved into a car and abducted, they find themselves entangled in unexpected intrigue. Robert, Tess and Jenna must quickly determine who is friend and who is foe in order to rescue Oscar before it’s too late. Along the way, Robert might just make some astonishing discoveries about those he holds dear.

A Deal on a Handshake is a collection of short stories in the Sheriff Jeff McQuede series by Loretta Jackson and Vickie Britton. It was originally published in DTB by Whiskey Creek Press back in 2010. It is free right now at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Deal-Handshak.../dp/B00EMYYZV0

Spoiler:
Quote:
In these seven mysteries Sheriff Jeff McQuede finds himself in the middle of a deal made on a handshake—where the result is murder. Set in the high county of modern-day Wyoming, the deal makers are speculators at an old-time mountain man rendezvous, traders vying over rare Native American pottery, or two family patriarchs pretending to bridge a lifetime of feuding. Throughout McQuede battles his arch-enemy Ruger, who he suspects runs a host of illegal activities, but generally manages to evade McQuede’s traps.

In each of these stories McQuede, putting his own life on the line, relentlessly seeks out the dangerous men who have broken trust.

The first mystery in a new series overflowing with Greek flavor...

Georgie Nikolopatos manages the Bonaparte House, a Greek restaurant and historic landmark in beautiful upstate New York rumored to possess ghosts and hidden treasure. But when her husband disappears and her main competitor is found dead, it’s up to Georgie to solve a big fat Greek murder.

With her husband, Spiro, inexplicably gone for days, Georgie has her hands full running the restaurant and dealing with the crew of the TV show Ghost Squad, called in by Spiro to inspect the house for haunting. So when she has a chance to take a boating excursion on the St. Lawrence River with her friend Keith Morgan, she jumps on it. But their idyll is quickly ruined when they discover the body of rival restaurant owner Domenic “Big Dom” DiTomasso floating in the water.

When the police start asking questions, it doesn’t help that Spiro can’t be found—and with Georgie on their suspect list, it’s up to her to find her missing husband and find out who killed Big Dom before someone else’s order is up.

Includes delicious Greek recipes!

Progressive Dinner Deadly is the second (per Amazon) or third (per SYKM) in the Myrtle Clover series by Elizabeth Spann Craig. Either way, it's free at the moment at Kindle US.

There is also a link in the blurb to get a free copy of what it says is the next title in the series if you sign up for Craig's email list. I did, and the book turned out to be A Dyeing Shame, which is listed by SYKM as the first in the series. So who knows, but in any case, it also is free. You can find the link for that one in the blurb in the spoiler.

To get the next Myrtle Clover mystery for free ("A Dyeing Shame") and subscribe to Elizabeth's author newsletter, please visit the offer page by copying and pasting the following into your browser: http://eepurl.com/kCy5j

Overview:
Who wants chips and dip when they can have Dickens and Twain?

To the residents of the sleepy town of Bradley, North Carolina, hardworking Jill Caulfield seemed beyond reproach. She volunteered at the women’s shelter, worked at the church preschool, cleaned houses for extra money, and actually enjoyed yard work. And she was nothing less than a saint to cheerfully put up with her unemployed, skirt-chasing, boozer of a husband.

When intrepid octogenarian sleuth Myrtle Clover caught Jill, her new housekeeper, peering into her medicine cabinet, she should have been upset. But discovering that Jill wasn’t such a squeaky-clean goody-goody made her vastly more interesting in Myrtle’s eyes.

Myrtle would have happily continued figuring out what made Jill Caulfield tick. If Jill hadn’t foolishly gone and gotten herself murdered, that is.

Other Works...

**If you want more Myrtle Clover, please check out the other books in the series: The books can be read out of order, but the technical order of the books is as follows: Pretty is as Pretty Dies, Progressive Dinner Deadly, Dyeing Shame, A Body in the Backyard, Death at a Drop-In, A Body at Book Club, Death Pays a Visit, and A Body at Bunco.

All signs point to an accident—until another brutalized corpse is found at the local bed-and-breakfast. But this time it is Berggren’s cousin, whom Thomas interviewed in Stockholm just days before.

As the island’s residents reel from the news, Thomas turns to his childhood friend, local lawyer Nora Linde. Together, they attempt to unravel the riddles left behind by these two mysterious outsiders—while trying to make sense of the difficult twists their own lives have taken since the shared summer days of their youth.

Blood from a Stone is the 14th in Donna Leon's excellent (IMO) Guido Brunetti series. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Blood-Stone-C.../dp/B0097CWKGY

Spoiler:
Quote:
Blood from a Stone brings Donna Leon's celebrated character Commissario Guido Brunetti back on the scene: On a cold Venetian night shortly before Christmas, a street vendor is killed in a scuffle in Campo San Stefano. The closest witnesses to the event are the tourists who had been browsing the man's wares before his death-fake handbags of every designer label. The dead man is one of the many African immigrants purveying goods outside normal shop hours and trading without a work permit.

Like everybody involved, Commissario Brunetti wonders why anyone would kill an illegal immigrant. But once Brunetti begins to investigate this unfamiliar Venetian underworld, he discovers that matters of great value are at stake within the secretive society.

Warned by Patta, his superior, to resist further involvement in the case, Brunetti only becomes more determined to unearth the truth behind this mysterious killing. Reluctant as he is to let this event be smugly relegated to the category of "not worth dealing with," how far will Brunetti be able to penetrate the murky subculture in this illegal community? Blood from a Stone is an exquisite and irresistible mystery offering an unexpected take on life in contemporary Venice.
