JB Roselands. The Glo HD wasn't on display, in fact neither was the Aura H2O. The Aura HD was un-initialised (so it was asking for language).
They had to hunt around for it (it was in the back of the Kobo cabinet). Opened the box, as I wanted to make sure the light guide was in good shape. Once the box was open, realised that you can't turn on the light until it's registered. So, I asked what the price was, she said $179. I said a friend of mine (that's you davidfor) got it for $168. She played with her handheld terminal for a minute or two, said ok. We went over their base station and she printed a price sheet. Went to the checkout, presented the price sheet for $168, cashier said $168, I said I had a $20 voucher (the Mother's Day - buy a $100 gift card get a 20% (max $20) off voucher, which I had bought yesterday), and the price dropped to $148. The first gotcha: the voucher becomes active the day after you buy it. The voucher's only for sale from another few more days, but good until the end of the month. The real gotcha, and the reason I laid out the whole story: the voucher discount is theoretically applied to the sticker price of the item, which was $179. I think that the price sheet for $168 became the new sticker price, hence my ability to get another $20 off. Also, with the price sheet, the salesgirl didn't run me up to the register. By happy coincidence, $148 is what I paid for my Glo, two and and a half years ago (actually it was $149). I've calculated that the Glo cost me $0.83 per book read. In case you were wondering, I went through the whole story because I think the process may have been the reason I got both discounts.
You can get the vouchers until 10 May. You have to get the voucher the day before you use it. |

I posted a follow up message explaining my own derp. I was trying to fold it as pictured on the Chapters website, (with the flap folded over top the pannel). That doesn't work so well. But fold the flap *under* the panel, (so the flap is held between the reader and the cover, lightly held in place nagetically,) and there is no problem.

Maybe I'm just lucky but I think the Glo HD is amazing. I don't see any discolouration or light issues that others have mentioned.
I think we spend so much time reading other's opinions we let them cloud our own and look for every little flaw or microscopic detail so we can share in the criticism. I'm looking at this thing and wondering how they made it look this good for this low a price point. I did have one minor glitch, after a search, where the x icon on the bottom was half missing, but I just went to the home screen and all was right again. I know this isn't the most technically brilliant review but I just put my phone down on my Kobo because out of the corner of my eye I looked at the cover and thought it was a book. That's a pretty good looking screen as far as my eyes can see. |

There is also a different between my Aura HD light and my Glo, the Glo is a little blue-ish white while the Aura HD is more light yellow.
In practice this means for me that I have to put the light of the Aura HD more brighter then the Glo so I think the Glo HD uses the same light color as the Aura HD, it isn't ugly, but there is a difference between the two. |

The more I have been reading on the Glo HD, the more I love this screen. In natural lighting it is absolutely beautiful. 300 PPI combined with the font weight option, makes for some really clear, distinct, text that I have not seen on other e-readers. It also meets the most important criteria that I have for an ereader: it reminds me of reading from a book and gives the illusion that I am not using a electronic device. Using 'Amasis' font option with good deal of text weight, displays text that look like it is has been freshly printed on to the page with jet black dark ink on crisp clean white sheet of paper. Reading on the Voyage felt like reading on a 'device'. For me, reading on the Glo HD feels like reading from a book with excellent print quality on the pages. Yes, I know not all ereader screens are created equal but based on the one I have, I definitely am happy and glad that I took the chance and pulled the trigger based on the specs. The only minor criticism I may have is that the light isn't quite as perfect as my Paperwhite 2. It is consistent but there is a bit of shadows on the bottom. Still very solid and satisfactory. IMO, much better than the two toned screen of the Voyage which bugged me to no end. Last edited by stutzj; 05-03-2015 at 02:31 PM. |

My wife got me the Glo HD for my birthday and I am very pleased with it. It's smaller than my Simple Touch with Glo and a sharper screen. I miss the page turn buttons and the external SD card, but 4gb of memory is plenty, especially since it isn't partitioned.

With so many people reported they have received their device I decided to check my mailbox and there it was. I couldn't resist buying the Glo HD even though I just bought an H20 to replace my Aura HD (broken USB port). First impression was that it is so small and so lite. I like the feel of the back. A quick comparison between the Glo HD and H20 the screen of the Glo is a little darker without light and the light is not as bright at 100%. Neither of which matter to me. My light is even and the screen is beautiful. Even though I didn't need it I'm happy I bought it. The H20 was a little big for my purse but this will be great to take out.
On a side note I had some trouble with the H20 I bought. The screen while beautiful kept freezing. I emailed customer service and they got back to me within a few hours. They emailed some instructions that I tried that ultimately didn't fix the problem. I emailed them back a couple days later that it didn't work and they said they would send a replacement. This is the first time I've used Kobo customer service and since you hear so many bad experiences I wanted to share mine which couldn't have been easier. The replacement H20 also happened to be in my mailbox today. Last edited by alism; 05-03-2015 at 08:13 PM. |

I see that the Glo HD is meant to support Pinch to adjust font sizing. Is this on both ePub and kePub or just kePub?
