Well .... they are fantasy in that there is time travel. There is heavy romance, and also a huge heaping of history (how things were done, made, cooked, etc) And also history about the Jacobean rebellion (Bonny Prince Charles) and later, the American revolution.

So yeah -- they're hard to categorize.

It might also be worth it to note that the first three in the series are currently on sale at audible (members only) for $6 each. These are HUGE audiobooks (30-40 hours each).

I've not read them, but from discussing them with others, I think Outlander has the most romance and as she continued, her scope widened. But I haven't paid that much attention myself.

Me either. Historical blunders not typos, will ruin a book for me. I can forgive small changes that make the story flow better, but I prefer that the author acknowledge these. Bernard Cornwell does this in his books. In Sharpe's Eagle he goes to great length to identify the two men who captured the first Eagle and explains why.

My theory is that some writers believe that as the author they can write whatever they want, regardless of whether it's historically incorrect or technical nonsense. I.e., it's their book so they can make up whatever stuff makes their story work. The Steerswoman was one example of that for me; so much nonsense.

I tried a sample and rejected it for that reason. YA Romance comes in many guises and they are just not for me.
