M96 + T68. Updates and more ...

I have since upgraded to the latest update from 2 July. Although I haven't used the device much, the massive standby drain seems to be fixed (or at least much better). I'd suggest to give this a go.

I think he is referring to booxters update as change log indicates "improved stability and power management". Booxter has two 1.7.5 rc1 updates compared to only one from the onyx international website. This is the link http://ereader-store.de/en/content/8-downloads. Im on the onyx international firmware 1.7.5 rc1 and the battery drain is bad.

Yes indeed, I meant the latest version available on ereader-store.de. I haven't used my T68+ a lot recently, but at some point more than a week ago I checked that it still had 68%. Just now it's at 61%, so about 1%idle drain per day. I think that's fairly OK - of course, it could always be better, but this is not comparable to the other firmware version, where the battery was fully drained after a few days without any use.

Oh. I actually go straight to the Chinese website forum http://bbs.onyx-international.com.cn/, use Google Translate & download from there. Currently on the 1.7.5rc1 release from May 2016.

Battery life is okayish, not too bad.

Dears, I have a serious problem with the update 1.7.5 RC1 (update of 18/05/16) of M96. After I reconnected a USB cable, the device frozen and it is not possible to reset it via the power button (I tried to hold it up-to 20s). Any solution of this problem? Thank you, Michal

I've faced this issue as well. Only once, but yes, it was scary.

Just try to leave the M96 connected to power adaptor for 10 mins or so & then try to keep the power button pressed to turn it on.

If it doesn't work, unplug the adaptor & again try to keep the power button pressed until you see the LED under the joystick/4-way D-pad light up.

Try to repeat these steps a few times.

Or try to use a higher power adaptor (I use my Samsung fast charge adaptor providing 2A of output current) instead of the default low power adaptor supplied with the M96.

This worked for me.

If it doesn't for you, try to boot into the fastboot (power+next) or recovery mode (power+back) to force the M96 to do something different.

The aim is to get some signs of life shown by the LED lighting up.

If all else fails, try to see if the flashtool detects the M96 at all.

If everything else fails, it could be a battery issue. Battery might be discharged (might require a kick start) or might even need to be replaced.

Just noticed there's a new update for the M96 (and for other devices as well) on the onyx-international website (Chinese version)

So finally it's not a release candidate

Google translate says that the upgrade:
1. Repair some cases after the standby power consumption can not cause abnormal activation problems;

2. Repair pdf handwritten annotations to save incomplete problem, increase the saving progress box;

I downloaded the update using JDownloader. The update seems fine so far. I was worried a bit about the release notes, but it didn't delete my annotations or anything. Export works fine as well.

Update: I bought the new battery and now it is ok.

After updating my M96 Universe , I've got serious issue with the battery, it drains super fast, it serve less than a couple of hours, and suddenly the device freeze and won't work tell I connect it to power supply and reboot, moreover battery indicator doesn't give correct battery percentage it always shows 100% or 99% tell it freeze, and then when I put it in charging it jump directly to 100%, it seems that this is battery issue, but this problem happened only when I update firmware through onyx boox international site "Firmware for Artatech_M96Univerce V1.7.5_rc1" dated on 30 may 2016.
First time I made the update I've got the issue, so I contacted Archatech, sent them the device, and they change the battery for me and reformat it to original software, then the device works perfectly, the battery life was about 1 month of moderate use, till I decided to upgrade it again, and the same problem comes again directly after updating.
Now I couldn't use the devise since it requires charging several time a day, can anybody provide me solution for this issue?
Or can someone tell me how can I retract the update and rollback to original software?

There are two updates which solve the power consumption problem:

I bought the original Universe as well but moved the firmware to Booxtor version when Arta-Tech ended their partnership with Boox. At the moment I'm using the 1.7.5. firmware and everything seems to work fine.
