No Longer Dressed in Black

They no longer dress in black,
they've become accountants,
clerks, engineers and thieves.

Cobain is dead and so is Lennon
that mop-top leader of revolutions.

Now middle-American angst
replaces the illusion, replaces the
heroes pushed beyond death, the
black that waits for us all.

Only the Goths are left and they
never bought into it anyway, their
blackness worn only on their sleeves,
a spacesuit insulating them from society.

They used to wear black, these clerks,
thieves, accountants; clinging to it,
as if to hope, but knowing there was no
challenge, no future, no reason to believe.

They were pulled inexorably
into society, depressed enough
to go along, depressed enough
to suck the blackness into their bodies
and smile as they hand you your change.

Thank you Tom I've always liked this one a lot and it's certainly made the rounds of the poetry mags.....but no one bit.

with graceful lines
you cleave the winds
an eager search for power
that makes you free
to spin your arms
and draw those
graceful arcs
with rhythmic beats amongst
those hidden streams
of bruising air

in sunlight 'gainst a stormy sky
bright white you gleam
but you at night
with ghostly stir
like hunting owl
you seek the airs
that blow across your towers
a search for that
which aids you in your need
to feed the ever hungry wires

but then
in doldrums
you idly stand
still ghosts
erected high and mighty proud
to turn
and work your ways
but silence points
to you
when nature turns to whimsy

a busted flush

Because it is harvest time ...

no longer can the fields lie fallow
no time for to kill
once harvest be in it's time to till
along comes the plough
and the roll for to harrow

follow with drill
to sow in the seed
ever increasing speed
cover them over and bother the crow

brown turns to green
then spray kills the weed

cycle on cycle
turn on turn
food for the hungry
never ending toil
in the country

poem: Desert Concert

The sounds of a Flamenco guitar echo down the canyon walls,
Castanets at the small cantina rattle and click,
a dancer's skirts swirls in the candle light.

A lone Texan sits there,
on the veranda,
in the dark of the star lit sky.

Strange it is,
to hear the old music,
on Nuevo Mars,
out by Wolf 359 !

The dim red sun has set,
stars and nebulae blaze in the night,
as the sounds of a Flamenco guitar drift down the canyon walls.
