There is no evidence that any dragons exist.

Why? That's always been one of the very justifyable criticisms of Christianity - the fact that it's so intolerant of anyone else's faith. You believe in your god, and that's absolutely fine with me, but why do you have to beat up on people who believe in a different god? Gods are like football teams; they all have their supporters, and who's to say that one is better than another? You're saying "only my team is real, and if you believe in a different one, you're delusional". Personally, I don't like football and don't support any of the teams. Is that wrong too?

A little tolerance would go a long way.

Look ... you're a scientist. If someone else came up to you and said something you knew to be wrong... well you just couldn't accept it. I can't accept other Gods. And whats more I need to set an example for others folks to look to.

When scientists disagree about a scientific matter, they can devise an experiment to test who's right and who's wrong.

When theists disagree about a religious matter, they have no means of determining who is in the right, because of the lack of evidence of either side.

The alternative is all too often a violent one.

Yes, and there are hundreds of millions of people on this planet who believe exactly that. Hinduism, for example, has quite literally millions of gods.

God usually weighs in on the right side. Boom! Just like that, the definitive evidence. You know all this talk of evidence is getting you sidetracked from the real issue... what is right and wrong in this life. How to live...

One of the things that are wrong is making claims that you don't know to be true. Which is what you keep doing.

How about just admitting your belief is a mere belief, and stop dishonestly misrepresenting it as fact?

I might, depending on what evidence he provided. I doubt it, though. But then, I doubt he'd try to tell me he was Santa Claus. Why should I believe someone's sworn enemies about his nature? Why not listen to him, and decide for myself who I think is lying or mistaken?

This is the key point in this whole thread: Why should anyone decide that *your* interpretation of reality is better than their own?

6...) Forgiveness for mistakes and sins, thats all. We're sinners in one way or another. I know that God would be real pleased if on the basis of this thread, even just one person went and actually started investigating for themselves the nature of life and God. Ya! Gods gonna like that.
Do you think it's likely, based on this thread?

This is one of the things I always wonder about--do Christians who argue with atheists online actually think they're *helping* anyone? Do they think anyone is convinced because of their discussions?

Would your god be just as pleased if a couple of agnostics decided they really hated Christianity, on the basis of how you acted in this thread?

That's right. I've already said that I am an atheist because I have not seen any evidence to support the existance of supernatural beings. From my point of view, the universe can be explained entirely satisfactorily by the laws of physics.

But, with the greatest respect, tz, what sort of an example are you setting? As you say, I'm a scientist. Science works by putting forward a theory, and then performing experiments to validate or disprove that theory. What evidence do you have to convince me, as a scientist, that your God exists?

I did talk about my beliefs... but one thing that is a fact is God and the resurrection of his son Jesus. Why don't you just admit that you haven't explored the subject enough to know fact from fiction.

Well... yes. You have a problem with that?

Some apparently contradictions are only semantic clashes:

THE WORD IN BOLD IS RED.
Is the word in bold red, or blue? Depends on how it's described. The word can indeed be "red" and "blue" at the same time. A lot of the "contradictory" descriptions of gods are that kind of problem.

I knew the number was high; didn't know it was millions. (Wow. I'll have to look into the Hindu definition of "god.")
