I've read and enjoyed some of Peter F. Hamilton's books. The problem for me is that I don't have the time to read more. I will eventually though.

Bargain @ $1.99 from Ace Books in Canada & the US (should be the same price in all the stores):

The Sookie Stackhouse Companion which is an official tie-in guide to Charlaine Harris' (Wikipedia) popular Southern Vampire paranormal mystery series (Wikipedia), with all sorts of supplementary info, an exclusive interview with the creator of the HBO TV show adaptation True Blood, and a bonus novella (not yet reprinted in any of the shorts collections, according to ISFDB). Wikipedia says this won the 2011 Anthony Award for Best Critical Non-Fiction.

Explore the unconventional, otherworldly life of psychic waitress Sookie Stackhouse in this companion to the bestselling series that takes a closer look at Sookie and her family, friends, enemies, adventures, and—of course—the lovers who set her world on fire...

Visit Bon Temps, the small Louisiana town that Sookie calls home, with a detailed map created by Charlaine herself, and learn the characteristics of the supernaturals who live there: vampires, two-natured, and fae. Examine all the branches of Sookie’s family tree. And eavesdrop on the private conversations between rival vampires Eric and Bill.

Finished Serafina and the Splintered Heart by Robert Beatty. This volume closes a trilogy, but hopefully there will be plenty more coming down the road.

Started Armageddon 2419 A.D. by Philip Francis Nowlan. I know I said I wanted to dig down in the TBR pile, but this one is short.

Bargain @ $1.99 from Open Road Media in the US only (linkage goes to Kobo, price should be good at all the usual stores).

In tribute to the late SFWA Grandmaster Brian W. Aldiss (Wikipedia), 8 of their reprint titles of his are being offered, some of which have been remembered fondly in this MR thread with the news of his recent passing, including the Hugo Award-winning story Hothouse.

Linkage for the lot, sorted by price @ Kobo US (couponable/VIP discount eligible) & Amazon main, and NB that the Heliconia Trilogy (BFSA and Kurt Lasswitz Prize for several installments) omnibus priced at $3.99 is cheaper than the individual volumes for $1.99 each.

A pair of (unconnected) freebies, both of which I've read.

Heide Goody and Iain Grant's Oddjobs is in the Kindle Unlimited program so will be Amazon (US, UK) only. I presume it's free right now to promote the release of its sequel. Oddjobs is humorous fantasy - when I was trying to describe the tone to someone, they said "It sounds like Men in Black," which is about right. One of the late-book plot-dominoes made me very happy. The book does jump among multiple viewpoints, so it might frustrate you if you don't like dangling plot threads.

Blurb:
Spoiler:
It’s the end of the world as we know it, but someone still needs to do the paperwork.
Incomprehensible horrors from beyond are going to devour our world but that’s no excuse to get all emotional about it. Morag Murray works for the secret government organisation responsible for making sure the apocalypse goes as smoothly and as quietly as possible.
In her first week on the job, Morag has to hunt down a man-eating starfish, solve a supernatural murder and, if she’s got time, prevent her own inevitable death.
The first book in a new comedy series by the creators of ‘Clovenhoof’, Oddjobs is a sideswipe at the world of work and a fantastical adventure featuring amphibian wannabe gangstas, mad old cat ladies, ancient gods, apocalyptic scrabble, fish porn, telepathic curry and, possibly, the end of the world before the weekend.

James Maxey's Nobody Gets the Girl is free at Amazon US (not UK when I checked)- this one has a new third-in-series out. I read it in a small press edition a few years ago. I don't recall it breaking any new ground, but I remember enjoying it enough to recommend to supers fans.

Blurb:
Spoiler:
Richard Rogers was an ordinary man until he met the super-genius Dr. Nicolas Knowbokov. Now trapped in a world that has no memory of him, Richard is an invisible, intangible ghost to everyone but Dr. Know and the scientist’s two sexy superheroine daughters, Rail Blade and the Thrill. Assigned the codename Nobody, Richard becomes the world’s ultimate spy, invisibly battling the super-powered terrorist army run by the mysterious mastermind Rex Monday. The fate of the free world is at stake as the superhuman battles escalate, wiping entire cities from the map, threatening the survival of all mankind. Who can save us from the looming apocalypse? Nobody!

Nobody Gets the Girl now has a sequel! Check out Burn Baby Burn: A Supervillain Novel as Sundancer and Pit Geek go on a crime spree!
