The following free download comes from an outfit called The PayLoadz Store, but the music itself is produced (or perhaps just marketed) by the Domo Music Group.

The piece is an MP3 single of the song Dark Angel by Lee Blaske. It is a pretty song, it is well done. It is a part of the album Music for the Spirit, Vol. 2. I am not a good judge of music subgenres, but PayLoadz describes the album as "New Age." However, this particular song is not very New Age-y, in my opinion.

To get the freebie, first navigate to this PayLoadz webpage. Click on the light blue button that says "Free Download." You'll be taken to a webpage where you are asked for your email address (nothing more). They'll send you an email right away with the link to the song. The email message will be from the "Domo Music Group," containing the link to a zip file with the MP3. It is important to open your email message right away and go ahead and click on the link provided because "The download links . . . will expire shortly. You will no longer be able to use these links to receive dowloads after that time."

Enjoy your new free music!

Another of the $0.99 albums right now (perhaps the other one you recognized, GtrsRGr8?) is the debut album by Matchbox 20. Per Wikipedia, this album, Yourself or Someone Like You, "was certified 12× Platinum (diamond) in the United States and multi-platinum in Australia, Canada and New Zealand." It has several songs I recognize, including 3 AM, Push, and Real World. Possibly worth the $0.99 for the whole album for a number of folks (including me!)...

In fact, it may be a double album--I don't quite understand the information in the relevant chart on Wikipedia. The album/double album is called A Head Full of Dreams, and was just released in 2015/2016.

Anyway, the album has at least two songs, it appears, that were/are modest hits in the U.S.--Adventures of a Lifetime and Hymn for the Weekend. These songs fared/fare modestly better in some other countries, including the U.K., France, Germany, Ireland, and Switzerland, than they did/do in the U.S.

Google Play has also posted about half a dozen other new (newly marked down) albums for 99 cents, but I didn't recognize any of the names of the artists or bands except for one.

If you notice anything in this post that needs correction or clarification, please make a post about it.

Genuine thanks for the heads-up.

I don't listen to the "new stuff" much now. I'll have to check the album out!

It's not "new stuff." I notice that it is music from the mid 1990's. Hard Rock/Post-Grunge. I'm definitely into that kind of music now, but in the mid 1990's I wasn't. That's probably why I didn't recognize the band or song titles.

Thanks, again.

Citizenfour, a documentary about Snowden released back in 2014, is available for $0.99 rental from Amazon. I'm not sure how long the reduced rental price will last.

Quote:
CITIZENFOUR is a real life thriller, unfolding by the minute, giving unprecedented access to Edward Snowden as he hands over classified documents providing evidence of mass indiscriminate and illegal invasions of privacy by the NSA.

I forgot about it until just now! There are so many free classical music offers floating around that I forgot that one starts up again today, and goes for a five-day (the weekdays) stretch!

YourClassical's free piece of the day is from an album Hoffmeister Beethoven: Duos for Violin and Cello. The piece is Ludwig van Beethoven - 3 duets, WoO 27: No. 2: I. Allegro affetuoso. John Mills plays the violin and Bozidar Vukotic plays the cello.

Access the direct download link and/or find out more information about the piece from this webpage.

The problem is, I've got two or three other free classical music offers that I'm considering posting, but I'm concerned that classical music freebie fatigue might set in on your guys. What do you think, should I start posting them or not? If I do, I'm going to have to find some way of keeping track of them, but a simple calendar might do the job.

You may have already downloaded this one. I posted it on Thursday, Sept. 15. Then, on Friday, Sept. 16, I posted a different one. Today's looks identical to the one that they posted on Friday. I'm trying to figure it out, bear with me . . . .

Okay, I still don't know what happened, but anyway here's the real free download for today from YourClassical.

It is a lengthy, 13 min 12 sec. piece from Edvard Grieg called In Autumn, Op. 11. It is performed by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, with Ole Kristian Ruud conducting.

Navigate to this webpage for more information about the album that the piece is from, Grieg's In Autumn Piano Concerto Symphony in C Minor.

On this webpage, there is a direct link to the MP3 download.

Sorry for the misinformation earlier. I'll try to watch that more carefully from now on.

It looks like Classical-music.com's newest free download is now available.

It is Palestrina's 'Tribulare, si nescirem'. Classical-music.com says about it that This week's free download is Palestrina's 1572 motet 'Tribularer, si nescirem'. The track is from a recent recording by the Magnificat choir and director Philip Cave, called Scattered Ashes. The disc explores the influence of radical Dominican friar Savonarola on the music of his time, and includes works by Josquin des Prez, Orlando Lassus and William Byrd.

'Cave shapes poised, subtly expressive and finely balanced readings' writes Kate Bolton-Porciatti. 'His measured tempos reflect the predominantly contemplative tone of these works.

The website name has "Classical" in it, but let me give you a "heads-up": this song, to my untrained ear, doesn't sound very classical. It sounds like a mixture of singing from monks of the Middle Ages with New Age music of the 1990's.

If you're logged in on the Classical-music.com website, you can download it from this webpage.

My apologies for not posting, earlier in the day, YourClassical's free download of the day.

We continue to see free pieces on the theme of "autumn." Today's freebie is in keeping with that.

Today's freebie comes from the (William) Alwyn album Orchestral Music. We can get the piece Autumn Legend, a nearly 11 minute piece, free from the album.

The music on the album is performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of David Lloyd-Jones as the conductor. Rachel Pankhurst is on the english [sic] horn.

To find out more about the entire album, including the free piece, go here. If you wish to download the piece, go here and look for the link "Direct MP3 download link." You'll know what to do next.

Now, I'd like to make a social/political statement. While it's turning fall (autumn) in the northern hemisphere, it is turning spring in the southern hemisphere. Yet, "all" that we see on the Internet are references to the coming of fall! It seems kinda unfair, don't you think? I think that I know the reason, though. According to WolframAlpha, the population of the northern hemisphere is 6.57 billion people. The population of the southern hemisphere is "only" 1.09 billion people, less than 1/6 of the population of the northern hemisphere. So, the way that I look at it is that things on the Internet in this regard are really just being democratic.

Amazon Prime membership will likely be discounted to $68 this Friday

Quote:
Amazon has fallen into the habit of discounting the price of Prime membership to celebrate award show wins. They dropped the price of Prime to $72 after winning at the 72nd Golden Globes, to $67 after winning at the 67th Emmys, and to $73 after winning at the 73rd Golden Globes. Amazon just won 6 Emmy awards at the 68th Emmys, so there’s a good chance they’ll be discouting Prime membership to $68 very soon.

The sale usually happens the Friday that follows the award show and lasts only one day. So if you’ve been thinking of signing up for Prime, or giving a year of Prime membership as a gift to someone, mark your calendar and wait until this Friday. These award show discounts are usually the only time the price of Prime membership is ever reduced.

No thanks. I'm going to wait until the two-year anniversary of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in April to see if I can get a Prime membership for $2.

Do you have any sense of whether or not former Prime members (I let my membership drop in July) will be eligible?

I'm surprised aftv said you should be able to gift it. Last year you couldn't gift it to anyone. I wanted to gift it to my mother and they said no even though she had never been a prime member. I called CS and they wanted me to get my mother's password to buy it on her account. My mother was on vacation, and you know how old people never turn their phones on so I couldn't do that. The so-called customer service person on the phone said if I gifted it he would give me a credit after the fact the next day. Luckily I insisted he send me an email confirming the credit, because I waited two days and no credit. When I forwarded it to CS I finally got the credit. I knew I couldn't trust the CS guy I got on the phone.

I seriously doubt it. Amazon closed up the gifting loophole.

But, try anyway. It never hurts to try and you might get lucky.

YMMV
