The Open Road edition of Topper, by Thorne Smith, is currently free in the US at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo and Apple. There are multiple other editions available that are not free, but Open Road is a reputable source and I trust they have the legal right to offer it. The movie and the television series were fun, but the book is much better IMHO. Still very funny, but with an almost subversive edge. Here's the link to the Amazon deal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09PJ9TGLD If you regularly buy at another site I assume you know how to find it there. I don't know how long this deal will last. |

I still have the original paperback versions of most of his books which I picked up at multiple secondhand stores more years back than I care to remember. | ||

Yes. Here in the States the copyright was renewed in 1953 which I think still puts it in the public domain, but our copyright laws are more complicated than I care to deal with so I wanted to play it safe. Oddly, it's not (yet) in Project Gutenberg (US).

The Woods of Arcady, the second novel in the Sanctuary of the White Friars series by Michael Moorcock, is on sale for $2.99 from the following vendors: I'm so glad that this one is on sale at all the major shops, as I had to grab The Whispering Swarm from Amazon when it went on sale last year, due to it being the only site running the sale. |

Yeah, when I posted I didn't see that there was another page, then when I did see it I went looking for my free copy of Topper.

PD copies of Topper are on several well known PD sites. No need for a scan without the proofing from archive org! He died 89 years ago and it's not a corporate work.

Yeah, but Open Road is good quality. An Open Road copy of a book you want to read listed as free shouldn't be skipped.

They Walked Like Men by Clifford D. Simak is $2 at Amazon, B&N and Kobo US. Imagine a world where local papers have science reporters? That's some science fiction. Quote:
