I wonder how many people know the meaning of "nike"? Nike was the Greek goddess for victory. Great symbolism there.

Another piece of trivia. The shoe was invented by an Oregon track coach and one of the athletes on his team.

It occurs to me that that statement could have come across as mean-spirited. I have a problem of sometimes assuming that people are on the same wavelength as I am when I say something, especially when trying to make a joke. I'm always having to work on that.

I actually intended that as sort of a backhanded compliment. People outside of Washington state may not realize that Washington state is already known for something, in fact many things. Considering just companies, the Seattle/Tacoma area alone is the home of Starbucks (don't laugh--it's a multi-billion dollar company), Amazon, Microsoft (and several other major software companies), practically the headquarters of Boeing (technically Chicago is, but the SeaTac area is where probably most of the aircraft building goes on). Those are just the ones that quickly come to mind . . . .

Boeing was founded here and moved it's headquarters to Chicago in 2001. UPS was also founded here but moved out in the 1970s.
