Me too! It drives me bonkers when they don't all match. It's even worse with TV show seasons. I have been tempted to make my own cover art to put up on Plex sometimes, just so they'll all match.

Wouldn't the "right way" be using at stunt double in your place?

S.L. Huang has a box set of her first three Russell's Attic books (Zero Sum Game, Half Life, Root of Unity) on sale for 99 cents at the moment. I checked Amazon US and BN, so it's likely at other usual suspects.

While these are self-published books, I have read about half of the first book and found it solidly written and edited, and I've also read her short fantasy. The series seems a bit more on the action side than my sweet spot, but I doubt that's a bad thing for many readers.

Description of first book:
Quote:
Cas Russell is good at math. Scary good.

The vector calculus blazing through her head lets her smash through armed men twice her size and dodge every bullet in a gunfight. She can take any job for the right price and shoot anyone who gets in her way.

As far as she knows, she’s the only person around with a superpower . . . but then Cas discovers someone with a power even more dangerous than her own. Someone who can reach directly into people’s minds and twist their brains into Moebius strips. Someone intent on becoming the world’s puppet master.

Someone who’s already warped Cas’s thoughts once before, with her none the wiser.

Cas should run. Going up against a psychic with a god complex isn’t exactly a rational move, and saving the world from a power-hungry telepath isn’t her responsibility. But she isn’t about to let anyone get away with violating her brain -- and besides, she’s got a small arsenal and some deadly mathematics on her side. There’s only one problem . . .

She doesn’t know which of her thoughts are her own anymore.

Free on Amazon UK - The Chronicles of Dave: Dave vs the Monsters: Includes A Protocol for Monsters & A Soul Full of Guns by John Birmingham

Looks very silly!

Spoiler:
When monsters and dark magic return to the world, only one man can stop them. Dave. So, we're pretty much doomed.

The Chronicles of Dave collects two great Dave Hooper adventures in one volume. In A PROTOCOL FOR MONSTERS we get real story of Super Dave's embiggening, not the drunken, drug addled lies he told us in EMERGENCE.

And in A SOUL FULL OF GUNS we learn the origin story of the only human being capable of kicking Dave's ass – the super-powered Colonel Karin Varatchevksy.

If you love your fantasy action ludicrously violent, and your heroes hilariously flawed, this collection is for you.

X-link to the DRM-free thread for the new Wildside Press freebie:

Wildside Press Presents: Discover A New Author: Brian Stableford containing 3 short stories by one of my very favourite authors when it comes to telling great stories about the societal changes occurring from genetic engineering, alongside Nancy Kress.

Also, some new RPG gamebook bundles, and the Humble Star Trek Comics and StoryBundle's Adventure Sci-Fi bundles are expiring soon, if you haven't already decided whether or not you want to pick them up.

Let's see if I can do this right - link to The Haikasoru Japan Sci-Fi Bundle from StoryBundle in the DRM-free thread. I own two of the books already, a rather nice-looking bundle in my view.

Have you read the two you already own?

Thanks.

Another Open Road Katherine Kurtz Daily deal $1.99 in the US (Note NOT part of her Deryni series)

https://www.amazon.com/Lammas-Night-.../dp/B01FRQEV9W
https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/lammas-night

An ingenious melding of espionage and the occult based in part on a true event in the secret history of the Battle of Britain during World War II.

The year is 1940, and Great Britain’s forces struggle against the invincible Nazi war machine. France has fallen easily to Adolf Hitler’s army and England is next in his sights. A British secret agent pays the ultimate price to deliver early warning of the Führer’s secret plan to harness the awesome power of the occult to conquer Great Britain by launching a supernatural assault that no defending military force could possibly deflect.

British Intelligence operative Col. John “Gray” Graham of MI6 is not only a valuable player in the great game of wartime espionage, he is also a practitioner of the ancient occult arts. In this life—and other lives before—Gray’s destiny has been firmly intertwined with that of his close friend Prince William of the British royal family.

Now, with the future of Britain at stake, these two men, the spy and the royal, must rally the hidden adherents of the Old Religion, hoping to unite the British covens in defense of their endangered island homeland. But it will take more than combined Wiccan sorcery to repel the Reich’s black magic on Lammas Night—and the sacrifice required might be greater than imagined and truly terrible to endure.
