$12.99 -- The Good House -- Ann Leary/ Mary Beth Hurt -- 10.2 hrs/ R-4.2 --> contemp

Quote:
Whispersync: the Audible book is $12.99, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($2.99)

A riveting novel in which an engaging and wildly irreverent woman is in complete denial - about herself, her drinking, and her love for a man she's known all her life.

The Good House tells the story of Hildy Good, who lives in a small town on Boston's North Shore. Hildy is a successful real-estate broker, good neighbor, mother, and grandmother. She's also a raging alcoholic. Hildy's family held an intervention for her about a year before this story takes place - "if they invite you over for dinner, and it's not a major holiday," she advises "run for your life" - and now she feels lonely and unjustly persecuted. She has also fooled herself into thinking that moderation is the key to her drinking problem.

As if battling her demons wasn’t enough to keep her busy, Hildy soon finds herself embroiled in the underbelly of her New England town, a craggy little place that harbors secrets. There's a scandal, some mysticism, babies, old houses, drinking, and desire - and a love story between two craggy 60-somethings that's as real and sexy as you get. An exceptional novel that is at turns hilarious and sobering, The Good House asks the question: What will it take to keep Hildy Good from drinking? For good.

Quote:
Panic (book 1/6) --> Audible book ($1.99) -- Kindle ebook (FREE)

Michael Evans is only in rural St. David's to maintain a low profile after his time spent as a city cop ended in disaster. The town is perfect for him: isolated. A tiny population. Virtually no crime. Until the night the strange canisters fall from the sky and the town priest starts killing people with his teeth. To Michael, the bloodbath looks like a murder case that the quiet town's two police officers can't possibly handle. But this isn't just a crime scene. And the priest is just the beginning...
Quote:
Shock (book 2/6) --> Audible book ($1.99) -- Kindle ebook (FREE)

The team had been told it would be a straightforward mission: enter St. Davids, now little more than a ghost town, retrieve the target, and return to base. Trouble is, the target is a man named Victor, and it looks like somebody else got to him first. And St. Davids is anything but a ghost town...
Quote:
Psychosis (book 3/6) --> Audible book ($1.99) -- Kindle ebook ($2.99)

Michael Evans, crippled survivor of the massacre at St. Davids, has only one goal left: to find his young daughter. And that means journeying north and discovering that during the five days he spent comatose in an underground bunker the world has changed dramatically. And worse, it's still changing. Struggling to come to terms with a world steeped in shocking violence and ever-present danger, Michael must adapt quickly to a new reality: The virus has already infected the population. But it isn't stopping there....
Quote:
Mutation (book 4/6) --> Audible book ($1.99) -- Kindle ebook ($2.99)

The only thing the survivors of the catastrophe in South Wales wanted was a safe place to ride out the apocalypse. The castle looked perfect: high walls and natural defenses that even the infection could not breach. The problem was that someone had beaten them to it. Someone who would stop at nothing to maintain control. Someone with a dark secret that could change everything....
Quote:
Trauma (book 5/6) --> Audible book (N/A) -- Kindle ebook ($2.99) --> no Whispersync deal

The worst is over. All that remains for the survivors hiding in the castle is to gather supplies to prevent starvation. It is a problem they believe they can solve without further loss of life. But there is another problem: the castle has come to the attention of somebody else. Somebody with strength in numbers. And among that number is a man who might just hold the key to destroying the Infected. A man supposed to be dead already...
Quote:
Reaction (book 6/6) --> Audible book ($1.99) -- Kindle ebook ($2.99)

Time is running out. The wildfire virus has caused irreversible damage to the UK, and fleeing looks like the only option left. For Michael Evans that represents a serious problem. Wheelchair-bound, and with the other survivors at the castle taken hostage by a maniac and her murderous followers, Michael alone must find a way to escape, and he will have to do it fast. Because the end is inevitable. And the clock is ticking....

Thanks for the heads up. I got the ebook free in 2014 and was looking at upgrading this one last week, but didn't. I think it was either 4.95 or 5.95 at that time, but I'll go for it this time.

$3.95 -- I Will Teach You to Be Rich -- Ramit Sethi/ R Sethi --> 9.1 hrs/ R-4.4 --> personal finance

Quote:
Whispersync: no deals at this time

At last, for a generation that's materially ambitious yet financially clueless comes I Will Teach You To Be Rich, Ramit Sethi's six-week personal finance program for 20-to-35-year-olds. A completely practical approach delivered with a nonjudgmental style that makes readers want to do what Sethi says, it is based around the four pillars of personal finance - banking, saving, budgeting, and investing - and the wealth-building ideas of personal entrepreneurship.

$4.99 -- Saint Odd -- Dean Koontz/ David Aaron Baker --> 9.3 hrs/ R-4.5 --> supernatural

Quote:
Saint Odd --> Odd Thomas (book 7/7)

Whispersync: the Audible book is $4.99, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($9.99)

From "one of the master storytellers of this or any age" (The Tampa Tribune) comes the stunning final adventure of "one of the most remarkable and appealing characters in current fiction" (The Virginian-Pilot) - as #1 New York Times best-selling author Dean Koontz brings the unforgettable odyssey of Odd Thomas to its dazzling conclusion.

Odd Thomas is back where it all started…because the time has come to finish it. Since he left his simple life in the small town of Pico Mundo, California, his journey has taken him to places strange and wonderful, mysterious and terrifying. Across the land, in the company of mortals and spirits alike, he has known kindness and cruelty, felt love and loss, saved lives and taken them - as he's borne witness to humanity's greatest good and darkest evil. Again and again, he has gone where he must and done what he had to do - for better or worse - with his courage and devotion sorely tested, and his soul forever changed. Every triumph has been hard won. Each sacrifice has taken its toll.

Now, whatever destiny drives him has finally steered his steps home, where those he cares for most surround him, the memory of his tragically lost true love haunts him, and one last challenge - vast and dreadful - awaits him. For Odd Thomas, born to serve a purpose far greater than himself, the wandering is done. Only the reckoning remains.

They pique my curiosity. I don't think that I've ever bought a book, ebook, or audiobook on getting rich. Except for a used physical copy of Napoleon Hill's classic Think and Grow Rich, and I haven't read it to speak of. Frankly, I have no interest in being rich.

Now, books on how to be a success interest me quite a bit. I've bought a lot of them, especially audiobooks. Learning how to get rich and learning how to be a success are related, but not the same thing. I want to be successful, but just for success' sake--it's not because I'm interested in the money that would probably go with the success.

I find it interesting that you had me pegged or pigeonholed as one liking the getting-rich subgenre, or even being someone who wanted to get rich. I'm wondering what I've said that led you to that conclusion . . . .

It wasn't this sub-genre in particular, but rather the genre it was in -- self development.

$3.95 -- The Consultant -- Bentley Little/ Ramiz Monsef --> 12.0 hrs/ R-4.2 --> horror

Quote:
Whispersync: no deals at this time

CompWare is in serious trouble after a promised merger falls through, so they do what other businesses have done to bolster their public image: They hire a consulting firm to review and streamline their business practices.

But there's something strange about the firm they hire - more specifically, the quirky gentleman who arrives to supervise the project: Mr. Patoff, tall and thin, wearing a bow tie, and with an odd smile that never quite reaches his eyes.

In his first interactions, the consultant asks inappropriate questions and generally seems a nuisance. Over time Patoff gains power to the point where he seems to be running the whole company. He enacts arbitrary and invasive changes to office protocol; he places cameras all over the building, causing paranoia among the workers; he calls employees at all hours of the night; and he visits some of their homes and menaces their families. People who defy the consultant get fired...or worse. The employees of CompWare soon realize they're not just fighting for their jobs: They're fighting for their lives.

The Consultant is a biting workplace satire with the horrific touches only Bentley Little could provide.

$9.99 -- Sisterhood of Blackberry Corner -- Andrea Smith/ L Mitchell --> 9.3 hrs/ R-4.4 --> literary

Quote:
Whispersync: no deals at this time

Andrea Smith's sophomore novel has received widespread praise for its small-town appeal.

When Bonnie Wilder's husband, Naz, finds an abandoned baby by the river, she thinks her prayers have been answered. But Naz refuses to raise another man's child.

After Bonnie publicly voices her concern for local mothers unable to raise their newborns, she finds more bundles of joy at her doorstep. Bonnie joins with a group of friends to form a secret network matching the unwanted babies with childless families. Heedless of the sheriff 's warnings, the women proudly continue their blessed work.

Then, 30 years later, one of those babies wants to know about her past - forcing Bonnie to recall the painful choices she made to carry out her mission.
